I just love it when something pops into my life right when I need it. Seems I have Someone looking out for me who believes in Just-In-Time delivery.
I’m teaching my 8th Graders about primary sources next week in anticipation of doing a R.A.P. reading response on some Revolutionary War primary sources. There are some excellent sites on the web on this
topic. (You can find my links under the tags “…

This week I attended the first District meeting of mentors and their progeny, a room full of brand new educators. It was exciting and humbling. I’ve been a mentor several times before yet every time I am
asked to do it, I feel surprised and honored. I’m looking forward to
the growth that mentoring always brings into my own practice. I hope to
share some of my experiences and reflections about the process here
with you. For now I am just enjoying the fact that my very shy…

The topic of the presentation was "Teaching and Learning in 2007" where I looked at the difference between how schools teach, and how kids learn.
I also, talk about what schools do is not what business wants
students to know how to do.
I hope you can listen to it. I…

So I sit here at my computer in my pjs still on thinking about yesterday at school. I have handed the students a book project and they have to read a mystery. Many of them are not excited because most don't like mystery and I thought to myself, I didn't either. So I took some advice and I am going to read with the students and complete the assignment for myself so that they don't feel I am trying to torture them. Yesterday the we brought the classes to the library so that they could find a…

Firm Sues Forum To Silence Critics
I am in shock over this article. The mere fact it can get to court is enough to send me spinning. Not sure how we can alter what is happening in Oz but we need to work out something and quick.
If this goes through and a precedent is set, best I look for a cave to live in as I am sure someone will hunt me down and I do not think…

As school began, I promised myself that I wouldn’t allow my network connections to interfere with my work. As last year came to a close, I was finding that much of my evening was spent checking the various
networks of which I was part and keeping up with the ever-growing RSS
feeds in my reader of choice. Once the summer began and I was able to
“denetwork”, I realized that there had to be a better way to stay
connected and informed without spending all that time checking…

Today I meet with my supervisor and after our discussion I am looking forward in having her view one of my classes. We discussed a few things such as joining the students with the Do Now. There might be more efficiency and participation from the students if I model with them. We also discussed graduate school and I recieved some feedback. Still unsure as what I am going to do. After our meeting I jumped right into third period and taught the inclusion class the lesson. I tried working on the…

For the past 30 years I've been connecting workplace volunteers with inner city kids in Chicago, and building a network of peers, supporters and others who could all be working together to build a better infrastructure to support the growth of volunteer-based tutor/mentor programs, so that more of them would be "best practices" in expanding the network of adults helping kids to careers, using the Internet and it's elearning and networking tools, as part of the process.
My database now…
