Marian, you might also include plurk which is a social networking tool that isn't as popular as Twitter but has many features that Twitter does not have. I've been using both for a long time and really like Plurk much better - my PLN has…

About Me
Husband, Father and administrator. My hobbies include sports, computing, sci-fi movies and books, fun with my family and gaming.

Professional Blog

My professional writing blog can be found at Educational Discourse. My focus is leading during this time of change. We are at the cusp of changes in education but what they will be, how we will embrace them and how they will affect our students are unclear. I take time to discuss what I believe will be important influences and the work the school staff and I are doing to enhance the learning of our students.

Looking both ways before entering the new year

Posted on January 3, 2008 at 12:24am 0 Comments

The new year has arrived and I’m spending time back in my hometown visiting family. It’s always nice to come home to take some time to just visit and catch up. It gives me time to do

some reading and blogging and just reconnect with my family -

dysfunctional as we are. As I drove home, a 6 hour trip, I was

reflecting on all the things that have taken place during the past year

and looking forward to where things might be going in 2008.As I…

Don't tell the students but the revolution has begun

Posted on December 12, 2007 at 7:41pm 0 Comments

’ve been able to catch up on some of my reading this past week

although I still am looking forward to Christmas and the time to do

some more with reflection along the way. One post that drew my

attention was over at Jennifer Dorman’s cliotech. Her post Re-Learning Curve discusses an article by… Continue

Why do we have "school"?

Posted on December 5, 2007 at 6:53pm 0 Comments

Years back, when I was trying to figure out what to do with my life, I decided that I needed some money to pay for bills, food and rent because I didn’t want to move home and live

with my parents. I was 18 you know and that would have been a real blow

to my independence and self-esteem if I had had to move back home.

After doing a few odd things, I happened upon someone who needed some

painting. The rest, as they say, is history. I liked the job and,…

It's societal

I’ve been in a discussion over at Infinite Thinking Machine with various people including Arthus who is “… a 14-year-old student in Vermont who has recently become actively involved in the online dialog

about educational technology.”

Part of the discussion I’ve been having with Arthus and Steve Hargadon, of Ning…

Walk-through - one step at a time

Posted on October 17, 2007 at 10:18pm 1 Comment

I’ve been using the Downey Walk-Through method of supervision more regularly since school began last year and with some work with my superintendent, have refined some of the things that

are going on. Last year when I was doing them, I found it very clumsy

to have an index card to write on.…

Hi Kelly--

It's great to find more Canucks in here in CR 2.0. You might want to join a group called "Canadians Mashup". If you join, please use the Welcome forum at http://www.classroom20.com/group/canadianmashup/forum/topics/welcome-to-canadian-mashup to introduce yourself, and then add me as a Colleague.

Hi Kelly,

With your interest in the changes Education Technology is bringing, I recommend you take a look at Wiziq's virtual classroom and authorstream's power point presentation platform. Both are web based platforms, have a bunch of features and free basic service.

Hi Kelly -- I'd like to invite you to join a Classroom 2.0 group called Canadians Mashup. I'm trying to build a network of Canadian educators and bloggers who are interested in sharing and connecting.

3 steps:

(1) Navigate to the Sue Hellman page. Part way down on the left is a Canadian map under My Groups. If you click on that and then look beneath the main banner (right of center) on the group page, you should see + Join this Group. Click and you’ll be in.

(2) Invite me to be a colleague please.

(3) If you add yourself to the map, please include a name or a photo of some sort. 'Anonymous' cannot be distinguished from ‘Unknown Location’ when I try to clean up the false starts. THANKS!!!!

Hi Kelly,
Just wanted to thank you again for your help with my workshop on Web 2.0 for Administrators. We didn't have time to cover everything I had for them, but the links are all on my wiki for them to check out when they have time. (http://marianpresentations.pbwiki.com)

I had fun explaining to them how I gathered information for them from social networking sites like Classroom 2.0. However, they were more interested in how Google Calendar works. :)

Hi Kelly, I just re-read your helpful comments on my wiki query. Thank you, now that we have begun, it makes more sense to me and I see the potential of so many more ways to use them. Are any of yours public view that I may show students and teachers?

I wish I were at NECC too! Glad it wasn't me...a wise person once gave me a mug, that read "An empty mouth gathers no foot." So true for me. I have a bad habit of putting all my limbs in my mouth!!
