Net Generation students were born into the age of information technology. Their attitudes, expectations, skills and learning styles reflect their environment - which contrasts our own upbringing.
From my personal experience as an educator, I've outlined what I believe are the 7 key traits of the Net Generation:
1. ConnectedNet Gen expect instant access to information. If they need to know something, they will Google it. They also need connectivity to their…

According to a
recent US study by the National Schools Board Association, 96% of students aged 9-17 years, who have internet access, use social networking tools. The study was comprised of 3 surveys, an online survey involving 1277 students, an online survey of 1039 parents, and phone interviews with 250 school district leaders who make internet policy decisions. The study identified that students spend on average 9 hours per week…

I've been trying to construct a situation where many groups (in school) are working together to create an service, system or application for the Internet.
If you are interested in taking a risk where our pupils (my pupils are on secondary high-school/college level)will learn programming (PHP and MySQL) together I would be more than enthustiatic.
Please send me an email if you are interested!

I had to take in my language arts class today. I think I did pretty good. This test seemed a lot easier than the other ones. I knew exactly what I was doing on every part. I don't know if it was easier or if she just made it that way, but either way I liked it. I think and hope I made an A.

Yesterday was a long day at school as per it was parent teacher day. The day was spent going over graphic organizers and homework. The rest of the evening until 7 I worked on my lesson plans for the next two days. Not being an official teacher even I was nervous about meeting the parents. My cooperating teacher was kind enough to introduce me as I have a role in the classroom. There weren't too many parents who came as my cooperating teacher says that many know the drill. After that night I…

So I was wondering if anyone had any ideas on how to integrate technology into teaching music and drama to young children. I have found a couple good websites about interactive piano and other things but let me know if you have any interesting programs or websites that you have run across.

SAP is now the first major software company to launch an online suite of business management programs delivered as ‘software as a service.’ SAP joins Netsuite, salesforce.com and Google in delivering software over the web in an integrated package. While Google Docs is a simple package of applications focused on collaborative usage, SAP is focusing more on powerful business applications. The continuing development of the ‘software as a service’ model encourages me that there is great potential…

As apparent in class, I have found that technology is a great resource that can be applied to the lesson plans of many school subject areas. Michelle Heywood and I worked together and decided that science, in light of early childhood education, was a great subject to incorporate with technological teaching strategies. We agreed that science should be very interactive and although it is a difficult subject to teach, technology offers many techniques that can make conveying the information…

Rheingold’s analysis of the human form evolving from tiny individual cells into a greater whole entity is the perfect analogy to use in describing the integration of technology into the classroom. As he stated, the internet has opened our world and allowed individual minds to become a whole. The internet is available to anyone who has the interest of utilizing it. It is a perfect mechanism to translate curriculum ideas, build social communities (which Rheingold also mentioned), and essentially…

Science is an exciting topic that is difficult to instruct at an early childhood education level. With the incorporation of technology, this subject could potentially become more comprehendible for the young students. Stephanie Robbie and I decided to pose the question: “For our ED331 course, we have been instructed to research a "difficult to teach" topic for early childhood. We have been asked to contact a teacher and ask about any known technology to aid in the instruction of the content…

This will need to be a short post because between supervisory duties, mentoring, extracurricular sports obligations, clubs, and the like, I hardly have time to breath lately. However, I wanted to at least share that a family member who is one of my best friends took the time to write me an email about my blog. She actually read the whole thing! How wonderful to have my first reader from among my close circle. I've had some far-off readers whom I didn't know add comments; I've made new…

My group wanted to research how educators can use technology in their classrooms to teach basic reading skills. We started by asking one former early elementary teacher and she replied in saying, the most common way to use technology in teaching reading is for comprehension.
In the research I found, it was mentioned that technology works great for students that want instant feeback so they know if they are correct and if not, they can fix it so they aren't practicing it wrong. I found…

In english class, we have been studing movie reviews and other things to do with it. I learned that in a movie review you should have an introduction and a conclusion. I also learned that you have to stand up strate when saying a speach. Well i also learned that u have to look them in the eyes when they are talking to you. You have to dress good. You dont want to look bad because if you do then you might not get the job.

Today was such a better day. I had full attention of the students and rarely had to deal with discipline problems. I think part of that came from the fact that we were all reading the story today. In order to keep the students engaged I had them read and I would ask questions based on the sentences used the day before for the prediction activity. I was sure to read with different voices and emotion so that the story remained fresh in thier minds and so that they would not fall asleep. The story…

I returned from our yearly administrator’s seminar yesterday a bit tired but with a host of ideas for creating a better climate for our school. While we were there, we were given two new tools that I feel
are really going to help our staff to focus their efforts and move us
forward.
Now, to be honest, I wasn’t really looking forward to these two days. Not because of the content but one of my staff members had had a stroke on the weekend and I was still trying to figure out…

I wrote a blog entry about the business of education. Here is the beginning:
We live in interesting times.
If you have been around for as long as I have, you can remember vinyl records, 8 tracks, and cassette decks. You may even have about 25
Disney movies on VHS and are wondering if you should upgrade to DVD
since all of them are now on the iTunes music store. Still have that
film…
