THE EDUSIM ADVISORY GROUP ANNOUNCEMENT

Posted on October 22, 2009 at 8:50am 0 Comments

We are currently in the process of putting together an Edusim advisory group who will direct content development and design decision as we prepare to release the Edusim Beta 01 distribution of Cobalt mid 2010.

This group will meet twice a month virtually - initially via Adobe Connect, then as the Cobalt environment matures within a Cobalt environment.

The groups goals will be to:

A great article on MaxPing - IT giants back up open source 3D Web

======

First prototype of the 3D web is already run at thousands of Opensim servers all around the globe. The 3D Web bears similarities to 2D Web; Users can follow links to teleport from a 3D world to another one. 3D Viewers are used to browse the 3D content on the servers.

The 3D web software… Continue

Merging and Evolving - Interactive Surfaces and 3D Virtual Environments

Posted on August 30, 2009 at 3:50pm 1 Comment

When the Edusim project was first started 2 years ago it was hard to imagine how far both 3D & interactive surface technologies would have come just 2 years later. Both technologies are evolving at break neck speed (ala exponentially evolving technology trends) and looking to converge in "interesting ways" (as Kurzweil might… Continue

Hello Rich, I am Anne Mirtschin, a secondary IT teacher from Australia. I also work one day per week for Innovations and Next Practise division of the Victorian Department of Education and Early Childhood Development. I have been accepted into a trial project based on the educational use of virtual worlds. This includes Quest Atlantis and Reaction Grid. However, my state Department of Education whom I am working with, is concerned about the avatar nudity issue and at this stage will not allow students in, until the issue is resolved.I have been told that you have worked on some coding that may resolve this issue. I have asked to make you my colleague but since I have done that I cannot msg you. My email is mirtschin@gmail.com and I would love to ask you more questions, if that is possible, please. We used Hippo Viewer 0.6.3 which did not allow avatars to remove underwear but this is not working. Thanks for any advice or help.

Have been looking at your work on Open Sim as I want to set up such a VLE for my Primary school, with the view to connecting with other classrooms and learning without walls. I would be grateful for some advice. Thanks.

Hi Rich,

I'm wondering if it's possible to send you my work, (game) I'm currently working on. (when completed) It's about teaching children how to tell time; I am trying to promote learning through discovery.

I will be very grateful it if I can get your opinion.

Many thanks
Phyllis

Hi Rich. I was wondering if your students would be interested in participating in a nationwide SAT Vocab Video Contest @ MIT university. If not, perhaps you have some other educator contacts you could direct me to. You can view contest details at BrainyFlix.com Please let me know. Thanks!

Thanks for your reply,
I am trying to set up an OpenSim Grid for my high school students. Tall order for an art teacher. Right now I have a University computer science student configuring Opensim as a stand alone and have a local company willing to house the server inside their network so I dont have to worry about firewalls etc.
I followed some of your links and wondered if Cobalt (squeek) is a better application for students to create and build. You can tell I'm over my head with programming but I think there is real value for my students so will continue to stumble on.

Hi Rich,

Great page Rich. With your interest in education technology I recommend you take a look at Wiziq's virtual classroom and authorstream's we based power point presenation platform. The virtual world could prove to be an amazing new step in online education.
