Well I've gone and done it now.

My wife has been warning me for years...."Watch what you say, you never know who might be listening". In a moment of utter isolationism, while running updates on our high schools computer inventory, I decided to reply to one of Kevin Honeycutt's "Driving Questions". A week later there I am, sitting atop iTunes educational podcasts in all my glory. It is always fun when you find someone with the foresight to include those of us from the… Continue

NECC 2007 to......2008

Though my blog has had a meltdown the last two weeks, I HAVE been blogging Necc 2007 on a site called tumblr, which is very handy for quickly posting things.

IF you want to check it out, or read about some sessions at NECC, check it out at www.technolibrary.tumblr.com.

It's been great getting to meet people in person, get inspired, and meet new people.

We're leaving and heading back to campus with a plan to start a women…

Blogger widgets in Catalonia

Yesterday I posted something about my Roman Emperor widget and lo and behold this morning I got a nice email from a Latin teacher in Catalonia who has added my widgets to his blog (Blogum iactum est). That is SO EXCITING! I create these widgets for use in my own pages and online courses, but the best part about them is that anybody else can use them, too. I'm… Continue

Out of my Comfort Zone- NECC 2007

So I sitting here- eating a sandwich at NEC 2007 and the conference is beginning to wind down. I’m reflecting on how I enjoyed this conference and I'm beginning to feel a bit overwhelmed. This is a strange feeling for me because I'm usually very secure and comfortable a events like this. I KNOW WHAT I KNOW!!

Enter Web 2.0, now I'm not so comfortable anymore. There's so much happening in terms of new technologies, collaboration, and ways to engage students. I'm just not comfortable wit… Continue

NECC - last day!

OK, just like always, despite my plans, NECC has completely slipped away!

I did post two blogs about it.

About the commercial interests - NECC, Buyer Beware
About the Constructivist Celebration

Hope to get to see some people today!

Summer Vacation

Dean Shareski has an interesting post about summer holidays. As Dean comments

For me though, I don’t get as excited as I once did about June and it’s not just that I haven’t spend 185 days with kids, although that does make a difference, but as I said before, I still

longed for summer vacation even after I left…

Time flies when you are having fun!

I can't believe that another day of the conference is over. Just one more day. I had a marvelous day today at the NECC conference. All of the sessions I attended today were interesting, engaging and useful. I attended two of the BYOL sessions and really enjoyed those. The first was…

Learning with Widgets - Roman Emperor of the Week

Hi everybody! Happy Tuesday! I just published a new widget at my collection of javascript widgets and gadgets over at SchoolhouseWidgets.com. I have so much fun every time I publish one of these, and I would be very curious what members of this ning community think about widgets as a way to share content.

Basically, I am a content-generating machine (it's fun for me, and…

DANG IT!

Frustration set in as I had a presentation and my keynote would not go fullsize on the projection screen.
So I punted and it went ok but the tech visuals would have added so much.

My grandson is now living with me and job hunting with some effort but needs more push. he will attend the local two year college here.

Next month will be spent planning how to add technology to my upper dviisons in a meaningful way.
any ideas you wnat to share?

Summer Academy #1 Final Projects

Well, we made it through our first Summer Academy - whew! The teachers were very patience and lot of fun. We covered a LOT of material, but in the end I think everyone went away with something they can use in their classroom. To see some of their great work, go to North Fork SA 07 Final Projects .

Thanks Alexa, Larry, Peggy and all of the teachers for their hard work!

I, and probably every one of our students, wants to work here.

This video inspired some great conversation with some colleagues about education as a whole. This is what we are competing against for "school work" time.

A bunch of Edheads!

I was thinking of the scene at edubloggercon where all of the microphones were in the center of the room as we were all talking. As a child of hippie parents, I spent a large portion of my childhood attending Grateful Dead concerts. That scene reminded me of the "tapers" section set aside at shows for people to record the show and trade tapes. I guess that was the beginning of open source music sharing for a lot of people. Maybe the… Continue

Blogging central for NECC

I think it would be great to have a "blogging central" site for NECC--sort of like LeaderTalk where you could go and read a lot of different impressions of the conference, all in one place.

With so many people posting on their own blogs, but all of us at the conference, it's hard to keep up, so it'd be nice to have one spot to post things, read things, keep up with "not miss" sessions.

Idea for next year?

OpenLearn Netvibes Universe

Well, after a long(ish) pregnancy the OpenLearn Netvibes Universe has finally been born. We’re the first University in Europe to have representation in a Universe (in fact Tom Hadfield’s work on the Harvard Universe is the only other University Universe I’m aware of).

We don’t yet show up in the search so I’m not sure which…

NECC

The conference in Atlanta has been great in that I have had the opprotunity to share thinking with amazing minds. The edubloggers are great and the conversations range into territories that are quite compelling. As I talk to educators, I have had my thoughts stretched, challenged and refined.

Mapping 2.0 Sites?

Hi,
I'm interested in working with a 2.o application that will allow me to mark historical and geographical sites on a map, that will provide GPS coordinates, and allow some space for text and possibly a picture. I'd like to be able to save maps, put them onto another website or link to them and to paste them into Word so they can be printed. Can anyone steer to a site that will do all of this?

Thanks,
Richard

I barely have time to blog so keeping more than one is not likely going to happen.
