In my first life, I taught middle and high school English. Now, in my second life, I'm working in graduate professional development for teachers, with an eye toward integrating and exploring technology whenever I can.

do something cool for summer vacation

[cross-posted at Higher Edison]

You have two choices.

You are 15 or 16 or 17 years old. Summer is just getting started, but already the days are passing too quickly. On the far shore of this beautiful inland sea of unstructured time, someone is waiting in a September classroom with an assignment: Write an essay describing what you did for summer vacation. There you'll be, hands poised above the keyboard, ref…

As a gold-standard certified introvert and digital immigrant, the interactive, public, exposed aspects of Web 2.0 send me squarely out of my comfort zone. And, happily, they land me right into my zone of proximal development---aka the squirming-is-good-for-you zone. When I began teaching middle school, it was a similar stretch.

Hi Scott, I've just joined classroom 2.0 and would like to contribute to your group discussions. I'm interested in community building although my primary interest is in building extensive communities of practice in which school and other colleges can participate. For, example as community of asset of a local economic region.

Look forward to the discussions.

Hi Scott! I look forward to reading your blog and learning more about you. Suzie Boss (your new necc friend) and I are interested in communities of learners, kids of course but especially educators who want to build shared practice. And any time those communities span across continents we get really excited!

Very cool Scott,
I am in your Hamline class. It is a very small world! Your friend who wrote a about blogging for their masters paper, who was that? I would really like getting in touch with them and bounce some ideas off them. Thanks for the heads up!
