Once you accept me as your "friend" I can email some things I've done with my 7th graders for our Renaissance unit. It's my favorite unit!

Teaching the Renaissance?

I am currently doing a study on teaching the Renaissance. I have found my students struggle with this unit more than any other in 7th grade. I've added quite a bit of technology to the mix and found little improvement. While our other units have shown tremendous growth this one continues to lag. I've put together a very brief survey for teachers to help figure out why this may be. If you've ever taught the Renaissance to any level it would be helpful if you could do it. I will share the results…See More

Kev replied to Elaine Friedland's discussion 'Acer netbooks'
I think it is unfortunate that netbooks got shoved aside so quickly. I have 6 in my classroom now (2 Acer, 2 HP) and I absolutely love them. The biggest advantage is their excellent battery life. I can charge them overnight and then they will run…

Games For Change 2011

Videos of the presentations from Games For Change 2011 have been posted at http://vimeo.com/channels/g4c2011.  They've been up for awhile now but I just finally got around to watching one. I recommend checking out the one from Gabe Newell of Valve. It is very interesting to hear the game developers perspective on things.  It is intensely obvious that he is not a trained teacher which is really quite sad. It makes me realize how much groupthink…See More

I was going to recommend Crazy Talk as well but I'm not sure they have a Mac client.  Also, unless they'ved updated it recently it doesn't handle multiple characters at once.  You could create two seperate ones and drop them…

Kev replied to Jeff Leppard's discussion 'Wagner's Global Achievement Gap'
I find the book impressive from start to finish. The importance of the text is waking people up. Anyone in education has to see that many of their colleagues have their heads in the sand. In most schools being better than your rival is more than…

Kev,

I just took a look at your post, "So, I Terrified My Students Today" and I wanted to connect.

I run a small educational development company that develops content atop Web 2.0 technology. I'm trying to find a few creative teachers who have high quality resource development skills to do some work with me.

If you are interested in chatting please email me at ap@pass-ed.com. Send me your contact information and the best times to contact you.

Hi Kev!

Hope you're enjoying the winter break. I was wondering if you, your educator contacts or students would be interested in participating in a nationwide Vocab Video Contest @ MIT university.

You can view contest details at BrainyFlix.com Please let me know. Thanks!
