We currently have about a dozen Promethean Boards in our district and staff use the ActivStudio software for Macs v.3.6. We are set to implement an additional number of boards for the 2009-2010 school year and I am struggling with whether I should be training teachers on the new ActivInspire software or stick with the ActivStudio. - I'm a District Technology Integration Specialist for Northbrook District 28 in Northbrook, IL. In my role as a technology integration specialist, it’s my job (and passion) to show our teachers and staff how technology can transform their teaching and their students’ learning. Working with these adult learners, assisting them with their personal technology learning and helping them integrate technology into their teaching, is a true delight. I also enjoy learning from them. It thrills the teachers (and students) to have taught the “tech person” something about computers; it happens nearly everyday! I feel that it is important to continually be learning myself and not to be afraid to admit I don’t know everything.
Prior to my current position, I ran a K-5 school computer lab for 3 years and spent many years as a 4th grade teacher. It has been my pleasure to present at national and local education conferences on topics such as: curriculum development, the reading/writing process, and technology integration. Recently, I co-authored a book for teachers on using the software application, Comic Life.

My name is Alyshia Olsen; I am a 20 year old college student from Olin College of Engineering. I am a part of a group of 6 Olin College students (we're in Needham, MA, and engineering students) who has taken a year off to work on an education related project. Since you are in the 'connecting content and technology' group, I thought you might be interested! Our project is called AlightLearning, and this is our "short" project description:
Under the assumption that within ten years, the landscape of modern education will have fully integrated what we now define as new classroom media: video, online collaboration, open source curriculum and other web tools, we hope to pioneer a web software tool that acts as a platform for this new media, bringing the power of the web and its tools to students, teachers and parents in a secure, comfortable and innovative environment. Our goal is to have our free software at a pilot middle school by April 15th, 2009, continuing to develop and coordinate with our users to create a product that other schools want to pilot and use at their schools, while allowing individual teachers to implement this tool in their own classroom.
Our project, titled Alight Learning, is currently trying to win an idea competition on Ideablob.com You can find us at http://ideablob.com/3975 . We would love your support in the form of a vote within the next couple days, but more importantly we'd love your feedback and comments. Our description on Ideablob is short, and even the one above hardly gets at many of the issues we would like to take a stab at solving, but at least it's a start.

Robin Martin said… - I used wetpaint because I was curious about the differences between PB, wikispaces and wetpaint. There are subtle differences and some frustrating problems with wetpaint. I had difficulties with some page arrangements and layouts. PB seems OK and easy for students. I have found that I need a bit of html knowledge to do some fancy stuff with Wspaaces. So at this point I have eliminated Wpaint as something I would use in the future. Down to 2! I have about 10 spaces on wikispaces that work OK. I can't wait for them to do more WYSIWYG type of a look without html.
