Colleen Brown replied to Carol Arcomano's discussion 'Students Who Can't Read Cursive'
We've all raised some very good points. Bottom line is, it's about finding the right balance.

Colleen Brown replied to Carol Arcomano's discussion 'Students Who Can't Read Cursive'
Unfortunately, many of the teachers don't want it this way, but it comes from building leadership. It doesn't "count" if it isn't 5 paragraphs, with an introduction, 3 detail paragraphs, and a conclusion. Typed, double…

Colleen Brown replied to Carol Arcomano's discussion 'Students Who Can't Read Cursive'
I'm about to embark on a teacher-selected research project. I was in her classroom one day showing the kids the PowerPoint project they will eventually get to. They were all so excited, until they marched into the computer lab with paper and…

John, I hadn't thought about it until reading your post, but I just looked back on my students' blogs, in which some are doing research and "blogging" it rather than a traditional report. They keep notes in a private notes…

Colleen Brown replied to Mitch Fowler's discussion 'Examples of elementary blogs'
I teach tech in a lab setting, with approximately 125 5th Graders. Mine are blogging and for the last couple months of the year I'd love for them to have some interaction with other schools and classes. We are working very simply in…

Colleen Brown replied to Carol Arcomano's discussion 'Students Who Can't Read Cursive'
I used to think cursive was important, now I just want students to write legibly. Some of my kiddos can type 40-50 words a minute, but struggle to write a sentence. I do think we should give them as many experiences to practice writing, but I'm…

Colleen Brown replied to Mitch Fowler's discussion 'Examples of elementary blogs'
My students have their own blogs for their writing and sharing of reading, but this project is in lieu of an ordinary report for social studies. So far it has been met with very positive responses from teachers, students, and administrators. Just a…

Colleen Brown replied to Christopher Myers's discussion 'Glogster'
I am using it with 2nd-5th Graders. I have classes set up on Edu Glogster. If I'm not mistaken, I think you can disable that feature in the educational version. Since we use class accounts, I have to be aware of the videos and images they are…

Sorry Colleen,

I had just talked to a Sarah and mistakenly put that name instead of yours. I did mean to contact you.

Sorry.

Hi Sarah,

With your work as a Technology Coordinator, I recommend you take a look at Wiziq's virtual classroom and authorstream's power point presentation platform. Both are web based platforms, have a bunch of features and free basic service.

Hi Colleen,

Yep, I'm Laurie's colleague. Never a dull moment for sure! I've heard her talk about her friend from Colorado. A few times I think she has used you a guinea pig to try some things out.

Colorado is one of my VERY favorite places in the USA. When Laurie mentions you or has you on chat, I imagine those amazing mountains and fresh air.

Nice to 'meet' you. Thanks for the comment. Hope you'll stop by and see us sometime if you ever head back to the Midwest. :) I'll add you to my twitter list, too.
