Mi opinión sobre el informe.

Es inaceptable que estas violaciones se encuentren en cafeterías escolares en NYC. Como es posible que un estado como Nueva york tenga este tipo de problemas. El informe menciona que El Departamento de Agricultura de Estados Unidos requiere a los departamentos de salud local la inspección de las cafeterías escolares al menos dos veces por año. Me parece absurdo que solamente requieran dos inspecciones anuales en las cafeterías escolares. Muchas de estas escuelas con violaciones en la cafetería se encuentran en partes pobres del país con una taza alta de minorías. Esto me lleva a pensar que es parte del racismo. Un reporte encontró que las cafeterías escolares en Nueva York con las violaciones más graves servían a los estudiantes de más bajos recursos. El gobernador Andrew Cuomo firmó una legislación que requiere al Departamento de Salud que publique los resultados de las inspecciones en las cafeterías escolares. Esto me parece muy bien ya es necesario sacar esta información a la luz.

Estudio: insectos y roedores en cafeterías escolares de NYC.

Este reporte habla sobre las malas condiciones en la cual se encuentran las cafeterías de las escuelas en NYC. El año pasado un informe revelo que 700 cafeterías escolares cometieron 1.150 violaciones. Ratas, ratones, cucarachas, y moscas entre otros insectos fueron encontrado en las zonas de preparación de comida. En Queens se encontró un equipo de cocina sucio y pobre protección sanitaria. Mientras que en la escuela intermedia en Ozone Park se hallaron más de 1.500 moscas vivas. Estos estudios revelaron violaciones extremadamente graves en escuelas de vecindarios de minorías. Unas de estas violaciones son cucarachas vivas pululando por los alimentos y 600 heces frescas de ratones. Hay información de estudiantes de una institución de otro condado que se enfermaron después de haber almorzado en las cafeterías escolares. Aunque El Departamento de Agricultura de Estados Unidos requiere a los departamentos de salud local la inspección de las cafeterías escolares al menos dos veces por año, todavía se encuentra muchas violaciones. Las violaciones no solo eran por parte de los insectos o ratones. Miembros de las cafeterías escolares no cocinaban o no refrigeraban los alimentos a temperaturas requeridas por el Departamento de Salud. Un programa llamado “Free Lunch for All” fue creado con intención de ayudar la nutrición de las comunidades más pobres del país. “Free Lunch for All” no es suficiente ya que en cuatro docenas de cafeterías escolares se encontró graves violaciones de alimentos para estudiantes de bajos ingresos.
