Hi Classroom 2.0'rs-
I just posted something on my blog with my two cents about the gender imbalance in educational technology leadership. Love your thoughts too!

Intro

I currently teach third grade. I have also taught first and fourth and have been an Instructional Technology Coordinator in a middle school. I feel technology integration is imperative in today's classrooms. I'm interested in learning more about Web 2.0 and its uses in the classroom. I look forward to learning more from around the world and across this great country of ours.

Connectivism

I am a very happy user of moodle as a VLE - my first love was WebCT and then moodle stole my heart. I am now starting to explore different learning theories to better understand how to design effective pedagogical materials for use within the VLE etc. I came across george Siemens connectivism "A learning theory for today's learner". Ref: http://www.connectivism.ca

Here is the conclusion from his…

Next week will be the first of three Summer Academies around the state of Ohio. North Fork, Wellston, and North Union school districts will be our hosts again this summer. Renewal

This looks to be a year of renewal for me. For the last 17 years I have taught various subjects to the MR population. When school started this past year I knew that I needed a change. I no longer felt the excitement that I used to feel. Thus started my year of self questioning. Thoughts went through my head that made me question whether or not I should stay in the field at all. I have some serious concerns about special education. But that will be for another discussion. After considering a…

The Power of Technology

This morning, before school began, Christine Southard and I decided to try out our new webcam. So Christine sent out an SOS asking for friends to help us play and we got a great response. We spoke first with Ginger, who graciously turned on her camera even though it was early morning in Kansas (You looked fabulous, Ginger). We played around with the camera and had fun. Then David J. checked in from Texas. At this point, after we figured out how to get David into our call, we realized the…

Will this replace Blogger?

The first question that I have is whether this service will replace Blogger for professional blogs. While many professionals are hesitant to use MySpace as their professional blog, Ning is likely to result in less hesitation.

At this point, I still love my Blogger sites, but with Blogger lagging so far behind other applications in the social tools and structures, I wonder how long I'll remain happy with them.

What do you think?

Entry #1: Tech Thinking

I've decided to use this blog to journal about technology and Web 2.0 tools in my classroom. As a mentor for the Florida Digital Educators grant program I am expected to conduct action research in my classroom. I plan to use these musing and posts to gather my thoughts and process my experiences toward that end. My apologies to any readers who wander by... this is truly going to be a working place for me... a work in progress that I can later shape.

Campus Improvement Plans - Let's Get Real

[cross posted at www.shannonprincipal.edublogs.org]

Let’s be honest, there are only two reasons we write Campus Improvement Plans.

Reason Number One, because we are required to by Central Administration. How many Campus Improvement Plans have been written in the past few years? How many reams of paper, administrative hours, even valuable teaching time has been lost meeting, reaching consensus,…

A New Chapter

I am completely convinced, that just like anything else in our lives, used properly, social networking can be the absolute best thing for our students. Let me illustrate:

A wonderful honor student I know...okay, my daughter is going to college next year. Throughout high school, she has been going on the internet to visit her friends websites. Early in high school it was Xanga sites. Later, they used myspace, and most recently facebook has taken over. My daughter dutifully visited her… Continue

Hello all!

Hi all. I'm a Houstonian (Texas, USA) living in Ankara, Turkey with my wife and two

sons. I help coordinate the International Baccalaureate program and

develop other projects for a large Turkish private school. Those "other

projects" at times include instigating more integration of ICT

(especially Web 2.0) in education. I guess an indicator of my success

is that I have nearly 30 students listed as my fans on del.icio.us… Continue
