I have a blog that is very pretty and nobody ever comes to visit.
A Very Old Place focuses on using primary sources in the classroom. If you like old stuff--documents, photos, emphermera or you like to use images in your teaching you might like to take a peek.

I want to provide educators with a link to my blog:
http://speechlanguagepathologysharing.blogspot.com/. I created the blog to share speech-language materials that I personally designed. Even if a educator is not in speech or special education, I believe that my blog can be appreciated by those in regular education. Regular educators might still be able to use my materials with their students, or they can just see how I use…

Vicki Davis's recent article in
Edutopia described how her students use PLN for their research projects. Before reading this article, I always thought of a PLN as a way for teachers to organize their personal learning.

It's amazing what students are capable of accomplishing when given rich, meaningful tasks to complete. I just finished uploading my latest
classroom podcast, and I am still smiling as I listen to the student responses to the following question: "Do you think that it is possible for a young student to make a difference in the world? What could you do in the next few months to make a difference in your home, school, community, and world as a whole?" I…

We've been using Moodle for about four years now and this year we've added Mahara to the mix. Mahara is an opensource applications developed specifically for education but includes many of the social networking components found in many of the most popular web sites such as Facebook, MySpace, etc. etc. Because it's opensource it can be installed on your own server and used safely with in the confines of your own network...if you so choose...

I teach in a small, rural school. At times, many times, we have to be creative due to our lack of resources, whether that be financial or physical. Needless to say, I do not have, what I would call, a usable curriculum map or pacing guide. I smell a new project! Normally, I merely "borrow" whatever I can from seasoned teachers, internet sites, etc. My situation is a little different because we are a Catholic school. I have to follow their content standards which means I can't just copy from…

We are all talking about Web 2.0 and how wonderful it is to use. It's the best thing since Slice Bread. Every conference is about all of the tools that can be used to make classroom use so much easier. Yes, I love everything about it. I love the conferences and the presentations. In fact, almost everything I see is about Web 2.0 now. After being in education and growing up with the Internet since the early 1990s, I have been very fortunate to have computers in my classrooms with the Internet. I…

Please take a minute to answer my one question poll on student preferred tools for messaging. What do you know about your student's favorite method of communicating?
http://twtpoll.com/t67coj Thanks for your input. Results available after voting.
Sorry for any cross-posting. I know this is very unscientific.

Based on my reading of the NSBA report, research by Grunwald and Associates LLC shows that social networking rivals television based on time spent on both activities and 96% of students surveyed have used online services such as chatting, social networking, blogging, messaging, etc. Social networking tools are used weekly by 71% of students.
