Elementary School 2.0

Information

Elementary School 2.0

Since elementary teachers have special circumstances to deal with concerning the use of technology, I thought we could meet here to talk and to share ideas for 2.0 integration.

Hello from the scenic North Peace Region of British Columbia. I am proud to be part of an innovative and creative network of professionals. I'm an intermediate teacher and part-time social responsibility district support teacher always looking for ways to build stronger, more positive caring and connected learning communities. Just getting my feet wet with all Classroom 2.0 has to offer!

Thanks for uploading it! I had joined but still couldn't see it so I really appreciate you taking the time to share this link. Thanks again for everything. I promise to pay it forward someday!

I realised you have to have an account before you can see the files so I just uploaded it here... Might not be a bad idea though to sign up for Issuu - It's a free website where you can upload PDF files and turns them into page-turning books! You can then embed the content into your own website. The podcasting script worksheet on my blog was made using Issuu :)

Wow, thank you both so much! I now have VLC media player in my dock and was able to open the video. That blog looks great too. I couldn't see anything when I clicked on the "tools for 21st century teacher" e-book but perhaps can find it at another location.

Yes, Lauraw, exactly. Once I understood embed codes, the world was at my fingertips ; )

And VLC Media Player is the program I was going to recommend, too. When windows couldn't play flv files, I used it all the time. Always worked like a charm!

Its just having the program to view it - VLC Media Player - its plays pretty much everything including FLV files - (http://www.videolan.org/vlc/) The main download on this page is for Mac OS 10.5 and up so you should be fine. And remember:with Mac, there is always a way... and if there isn't, it must not be worth it :P

Also, a twitter post just came out giving this link (http://edudemic.com/2010/07/ten-best-podcasts-for-teachers/) Its a list of teacher podcasts of which many talk about technology. Do you have twitter? I've just started using TweetDeck to keep my Facebook and Twitter updates organised (just a thought).

Also: a great blog that I have been reading lately you might like: http://transformingtechnology.blogspot.com/ Maggie is a really reflective educator who has been apart of the international school, IB system for over twenty years! I read through most of her archive within a couple of days of finding her blog... its like a brilliant new novel that you just can't put down!

I have a Mac (desktop, Mac OS X version 10.6.4) so I'm guessing that is why I'm not able to view it. Thank you Ellen - I was able to download the video but not open it. Any way Mac users can view it?

Thanks Ellen! I had a look at the embed code of another session and found the file address... is this how you did it?

I should mention that when you click on the url, a dialog box comes up. Click on SAVE to start the download : )

Dear Kathryn,

It is puzzling that you cannot see the video above the embed button, but you can download the video easily from this url: http://bitcast-g.bitgravity.com/techit/resources_for_elementary_int...

It is an .flv file. You shouldn't have trouble viewing it with windows media player, but if you do, let me know and I'll point you to a program that can : )
