Garrison Daily replied to Darcie Priester's discussion Starting a Tech Club
"I totally understand. I teach tech in middle school and I've been dying to get them started on programming, but my experience stopped at BASIC a hundred years ago. My sixth graders wound up with almost 2 extra weeks before the semester ended,…"

"I haven't used lulu, but I did come across this article detailing exactly what you're considering.   You might also look into: tikatok Mighty Authors (created by a teacher) KidPub   Also, Scribd allows you to create e-books for…"

Garrison Daily replied to Irene M. Sclafani's discussion google earth
"Google Earth is great, but it does take a lot of time to get to know it. I think the GE webpage has a tutorial right on it. If not, just google it. Like Colin said, be sure the layers (at the bottom) that you don't want are unchecked or it gets…"

Garrison Daily replied to Steve Lee's discussion Collecting student assignments and digital files
"Yes. It's so handy. On the due date, I open it up and grade it ... ready or not. This has been a wonderful lesson to them about hitting deadlines.   The elementary kids are too young for Google, unless your district gets in on Google Apps…"

Garrison Daily replied to Ashley Weber's discussion Schoology - is it worth the time?
"Ashley, Schoology is interesting. Thanks for sharing. I understand your desire to have assignments accessible to all. Mine have been totally online for years, now. It looks like schoology would work well and has the familiar interface that kids…"

Garrison Daily replied to Steve Lee's discussion Collecting student assignments and digital files
"Steve, This sounds great. I, however, am a Google freak. My older kids have Gmail accounts and can share their work with me without having to attach them to emails. Also, I don't have to download file after file. The younger ones still email…"

Garrison Daily commented on Derrick Waddell's group Moving to the Cloud
"Teachers are busy and don't have time to invent new ways of doing things. We know the cloud will ultimately make their lives easier, but it's hard to really convince folks who are up to their arse in alligators that it's time to drain…"

Garrison Daily replied to Kelly Ryan's discussion When to start the technology learning process in the group Elementary School 2.0
"Kelly, Your question cannot be answered. Every district (heck, every school) is different, don't you think? Just looking at the responses following mine, I could see that we're all over the place. Technology certainly hasn't become…"

Garrison Daily replied to Kelly Ryan's discussion When to start the technology learning process in the group Elementary School 2.0
"I teach computers in middle school and, with the exception of WORD, most of my students come to me without having had much experience with the key tools. So, I'm thinking elementary doesn't really address it and I know that most of the…"

Garrison Daily replied to Heather Davis's discussion Making Student Tutorials - need help in the group Elementary School 2.0
"If I'm hearing you correctly, sounds like they could make each storyboard "page" on any doc (Word, ppt, etc.), then upload those to VoiceThread, which lets them do voice-overs. It's free and less complicated than making movies."

About Me
I 'm proud of my 21 years in education, but will fight to the death to keep from being a dinosaur. From elementary to middle, I specialized in the sixth grader and his entire curriculum until two years ago, when I landed in the computer lab. All sorts of projects take place in my room, where kids (including the heretofore unappreciated 7th and 8th graders) are encouraged to chat, search out, and create stuff. The future can be anything we make it.
