Collaborating for REAL Student Improvements!

As you visit/join this Distance Collaborations Group, you may want to give a few stats about yourself and your education position to let new/old group members know how they can collaborate with you.

Additionally, here's a terrific project where high school and college students can collaborate locally AND globally. There are infinite possibilities out there!

The Enabling Support Foundation has initiated an international collaboration for classrooms throughout. We will match classes and provide ongoing support for projects ranging from general cultural exchange to specific projects to meet specific needs or for special needs students. Right now at least 15 classes from Morocco are interested in improving the English proficiency of students and classes in the Caribbean are being formed. You can see the initial development of the project and Register you class to become involved at www.enabling.org/drupal/teleeducation

Saidani, I may not have made myself clear. If your students are 16 to 19 they would match with younger students and act as Big Brothers. The match would be based on English proficiency. It would be expected that the collaborating classes which have English as a first language would have a higher English proficiency than students of the same age where English is not the primary language. The big brother approach lets your students interact with younger students as mentors because of their experience.

Thanks Bob for the project and invitation. But the partners' age may be a hindrence to understanding for better communication. We have students between 16 and 19 of age so they can't mix up nor match with older persons, I think.

The teachers in Morocco have started to express their interest. The Moroccan students are learning English as a second language and are would not match their age mates whose native language is English. The program will be developed as a Big Brother project where older Moroccan students will "mentor" younger students here but they will be conversing in English at a common grade level. The teachers will decide the nature of the collaboration between the students.

If you are interested, send you email and information about your class: age, grade level, goals. We will find matches and the teachers can then email about what they would like to do.

I am the Lower School librarian at St. Albans School in Washington, D.C. In January I would like my book club which consists for 4th and 5th grade boys to communicate with another school - possibly New Zealand, Canadian or a Latin American country - to discuss reading books. If anyone might be interested, please e-mail me at thudak@cathedral.org. Thanks so much!

Hello all,

I will soon be teaching EFL at a Prep Year program with a university in Saudi Arabia and am looking for a class to collaborate with my students. They will be around 17 or 18 years of age, with basic knowledge of English.
The one catch though is that I can really only partner with other male only classes due to cultural sensitivities.
If you or anyone else you know may be interested, please email directly at 'mhmd.anour@gmail.com'. Alternatively, I am on ePals where I can be reached at 'mnour@epals.com'.
Thanks in advance.

Professor Cobb,
Would your class be interested in working with my high school sophomores at our suburban Chicago school, part of a K-12 district? We would be interested in digital story-telling and distance collaboration, and I and my fellow teachers would be willing to explore working with your grad students on the development of online curricula. We have a workspace already http://wiki-land.wikispaces.com , but we could be doing more distance collaboration with it.
Thank you for your consideration,
andrew
