I have created a blogging site focused entirely on thinking. The students go to this site and we discuss a weekly question to do with a philosophical idea that is focused with a video, image or discussion point. After a classroom discussion the…

I use a blog as an independent activity during reading time with my third and fourth graders. I am encouraging them to write more and elaborate (with mixed results) but their motivation to write about their reading has gone sky high-particularly…

Interesting idea - students can still demonstrate their knowledge as they would in the typical report, but in a fun way that will be far more engaging for students than the typical 5 paragraph essay. This has given me an idea to run by middle school…

I teach tech in a lab setting, with approximately 125 5th Graders. Mine are blogging and for the last couple months of the year I'd love for them to have some interaction with other schools and classes. We are working very simply in…

Here's a blog I did with my 4th grade classroom a few years ago. http://evergreengrade4.blogspot.com/ I assigned it as a "job" at the end of the day. While the other kids were sweeping, washing whiteboard, emptying trash, etc. One…

Aah, now I see. You didn't say that in the original post so that's why I was curious about the impersonating thing.

My students have their own blogs for their writing and sharing of reading, but this project is in lieu of an ordinary report for social studies. So far it has been met with very positive responses from teachers, students, and administrators. Just a…

Why do you have them "impersonate" someone else as opposed to being themselves. Don't you want them to learn about being truthful and responsible for the contect that they publish? I would think that this would be a good way to…

Hi Mitch. I was wondering if you have educator friends who would be interested in participating in a nationwide SAT Vocab Video Contest @ MIT university. You can view contest details at BrainyFlix.com Please let me know. Thanks!

Hi Mitch,
Yes I wanted to get rid of the music widget which is right above the profile.
By the way my 5th grade will probably be looking to make some connections if you are interested.
Thanks

Mitch, I like the way you think! I, too, had a teacher in high school who pointed out how popular movies highlighted current affairs. I've never been able to watch movies the same way since...

Hey Mitch, HAHAHA!!! I can explain the flipping second fraction thing... its one of those funny math rules for division, you can change any division to multiplication of the reciporcal of the second number. Its kinda like why 2 negatives make a positive... and all the other 40,000,000,000 rules of math! I like the video math rule of 5 14's make 25. And the Cereal Capital of the World? I thought we had it great here in PA, The Mushroom Capital of the World. Cereal is so way better. Good luck in your quest for resouces, I am too am glued to the web for ideas.

Hans,
Thanks for the response. Like I said, I have a blog, but am having trouble connecting to the world. Are there any sites or resources you know of that can help teachers connect? Also, I am interested in knowing what has worked in the past at the elementary level that has created meaningful learning. I'll also check out the blog. Look forward to hearing from you.
Also, greetings from the Cereal Capital of the World (Battle Creek)!

About Me
I am a first year, fifth grade teacher who loves to use technology whenever possible. I am here to learn a little more about moving my elementary classroom towards "2.0 status". Currently, my classroom blog contains several entries from my students. Unfortunately, we have need made a connection with the outside world in order to create learning links with others. This is where I believe Classroom 2.0 can really help me.

I just got done watching the ABC national news, which by the way, a big thank you to Charles Gibson for his sign off, "I'm Charles Gibson and I hope you had a good day." Thanks Charle... I hope you had a good day too. It's funny, it's like ABC thought, "Hmmm... we just got done telling them about all of the war torn, genocide ridden, paternity testing, you better listen to our recall or your pet will die news.... how can we make them feel better? I know, let's tell them that WE hope YOU had a… Continue
