I blogged about one way to try feeds in the classroom--I used pageflakes. Widgetbox.com is a neat resource for tools/widgets that have feeds, you can also create our own!!
Heres the link to the blog posting about pageflakes: http://yoursmarticles...
Yes this was our solution too. One added advantage is that is easy to see what each student has done. We invite the other students to give feeback to others by using the 'Comment' facility.
Kristin Still and I put together a wiki to engage students in a flat classroom type project in wikispaces. I use wikis for e-portfolios and have my students work together on building their portfolios. We have been using wikispaces and wetpaint.
I am teaching in an all boys catholic high school. This year I am using pbwiki in a Microsoft Desktop Support Technician class. Every Sunday the wiki is updated with the assignments and important links for the week. The wiki contains a planner for...
You can share my wiki, although it was made by 7th and 8th graders. We worked together creating a help site for the program RPG Maker XP. I did very little instruction on the creation of the wiki. They pretty much fiugred most of it out themselves...
I teach a high school world religions course and I started using a classroom wiki this year. It has been a great experience for my students and myself. We use the wiki for collaborative projects, on-going student led study guides, review articles ...

I'm a 4th grade teacher in Maryland. I also teach other teachers how to infuse technology into instruction. I enjoy finding new ways to get students and teachers excited about using technology.
Our Brainyflix video contest just ended, and I wanted to thank you for helping us get the word out. We got 800 submissions from across the country!
That said, MIT was really happy with the results and will let us run another contest, so we're going for it! But this time, we're gonna have kids create Brainypics flashcards - which are images and sentences paired up with a one of our SAT/ACT words. The contest ends May 22nd, and there'll be iTunes and a cash prize like last time. To boot, we'll double the payout if the kids can hit a certain goal. More details at brainyflix.com/main/contest_rules.
Do you mind telling students and your colleagues again?
There are three books in this series http://www.amazon.com/Make-Shapes-No-Tarquin-Mathematical/dp/0906212006/ref=sr_1_10?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1232636883&sr=1-10
You can also search for Hands On Equations--the kits are pricey but well worth it.
Tanya, I don't do a lot of Geometry but over the years the kids have done Creative Constructions (they use math to construct regular polygons), we've put together 3D solids (and hung them from the ceiling), Shapes and Solids (foam shapes which students draw on grid paper). My co-teacher has used Hands On Equations to teach Algebra (I know, different subject but great materials) Let me know if you are interested in anything I mentioned and I'll see if I can find a source. Happy New Year! I was wondering if you have any 2ndary education contacts who would be interested in participating in a nationwide Vocab Video Contest @ MIT university. We'd really like to get more students involved from Maryland!
You can view contest details at BrainyFlix.com Please let me know. Thanks!
With your work in Technology Integration, I recommend you take a look at Wiziq's virtual classroom and authorstream's power point presentation platform. Both are web based platforms, have a bunch of features and free basic service.
I'm sending out messages to everyone I know right now, and this classroom20 network is no exception. (I've also sent this out on other Ning networks you may be a part of.) My name is Alyshia Olsen; I am a 20 year old college student from Olin College of Engineering. I am a part of a group of 6 Olin College students (we're in Needham, MA, and engineering students) who have taken a year off to work on an education related project. Since you are in the 'connecting content and technology' group, I thought you might be interested! Our project is called AlightLearning, and this is our "short" project description:
Under the assumption that within ten years, the landscape of modern education will have fully integrated what we now define as new classroom media: video, online collaboration, open source curriculum and other web tools, we hope to pioneer a web software tool that acts as a platform for this new media, bringing the power of the web and its tools to students, teachers and parents in a secure, comfortable and innovative environment. Our goal is to have our free software at a pilot middle school by April 15th, 2009, continuing to develop and coordinate with our users to create a product that other schools want to pilot and use at their schools, while allowing individual teachers to implement this tool in their own classroom.
Our project, titled Alight Learning, is currently trying to win an idea competition on Ideablob.com You can find us at http://ideablob.com/3975 . We would love your support in the form of a vote within the next couple days, but more importantly we'd love your feedback and comments. Our description on Ideablob is short, and even the one above hardly gets at many of the issues we would like to take a stab at solving, but at least it's a start.
Feel free to email me back, check out alightlearning.com, anything you like!
