Thank you for the posts to push me to individualize the blogs! This month they really worked on collaborating to create a nice summary for our blog. I have been hesitant with taking the next step of giving them their own to work with, but I think they are ready. I set up a classroom page through Ning and have created an account through my email address (They do not have school email addresses) for each one of them. I already put up a discussion for them to work on next Monday when we come back… Continue

I'm taking my classmate's advice and diving in!

Hello fellow teachers! I am a 4th grade teacher up in Schiller Park, IL which is about a mile outside of the NW city limits of Chicago and literally right across the street from OHare Airport. I enjoy teaching so much and am working really hard this year at integrating technology. I have been reading so much of how this generation of learners are so different from us. Although I am in my late 20's, I still feel like an ancient fossil compared to them in the computer world. At the beginning of… Continue

Hi Mini,

With your interest in web technology I recommend you take a look at Wiziq's virtual classroom and authorstream's power point presentation platform. Both are web based, have a bunch of features and free basic service.

I am relatively new here. I am from Ghana and I'm just here to learn, contribute as well as link up with like-minded people who will be willing to share their experiences as well as help in spreading the concept of distance learning and adult education to Africa, which lags behind as far as education is concerned. My company has developed a television program called 'ADULTS IN EDUCATION' which is used in teaching, especially adults, how to read and write as well as general tips on how to take care of oneself. We also treat social issues as well. Television is still the widest means of disseminating information here in Ghana

Hi Mini,

We are known as SITACT Incorporated and we operate out of Chicago. You can
find more about us at www.sitact.ent. We are into developing virtual
learning environments and course settings so that it becomes easy to set up
an online course for a teacher. A sample of what we do can be seen at
www.lms.sitact.net . Please use the guest login
and use "frankieuncle" as the guest access code. What you will see in here
is a simple course that describes the software, but this course can be
designed to teach diverse subject matter to students. If you feel the kind
of work we are doing will be useful for you, we will be glad to work with
you setting up such virtual courses for collaborative dissemination and consumption of knowledge. Even if you didn't like the work we do, please let us know if we can do anything else for you.

Regards,
Sanjib

Hey Mini,
Small world I used to work right next door to you in Mt Prospect, teaching technology at an El Ed school K-5, called Lions Park. Now I'm in a suburb of Milwaukee doing the same thing, but frequently visit the area to keep in touch w/ family and friends. Anyway, let me know if there is anything I can help you with. Are you a Mac or PC based district? Do you do a lot of stuff w/ web based applications? Have you thought about doing a lot of multi-media type stuff, such as podcasts, digital storytelling, web pages, etc.?

Hi Mini,
I do have a teacher interested. Please send me your email address. I will send you the information and what you need to get started. Then the two of you will be able to contact each other about dates.

Thanks.

I looked at the RSS stuff as well. I think it will help, but I think you and I need to have a deep philisophical discussion about this stuff, because we see eye to eye on the future of education and this is it! It is very exciting! We have to get together even after the party over the break! We'll talk to day about it. Yeah...Fizzy drinks!

YOu are in trouble young lady...I have been up checking this site out and my heart is beating so fast and I am so overwhelmed. There is so much information that I can't take it. Just kidding, of course! This is a great find. I can't wait to use it.
