Computer Programming Lesson Integration

I am looking for folks to virtually join my March 4, 2011, 9am CST MAIS-TEC (Memphis Association of Independent Schools Technology Education Consortium)  meeting to share how they incorporate computer programming into their classrooms/projects and talk about the programming software that they use.  So far we have one technology instructor who is going to talk about Scratch, but currently has used it for enrichment classes.  Anyone use…See More

If they video in Photobooth it may help you limit their video time. Then they can import it into iMovie for the theme entrance.  We use Vimeo to produce ours and save  it as a mobile quicktime.  Another place to send it to is…

I have had many problems using this tool in the classroom too.  Someone suggested that I use http://en.linoit.com/ instead. It has worked perfectly. I actually like its features better too.  The owner of the stickie can move it around…

I am in the same boat. I am currently in the process of setting up the email accounts through gmail. But am still researching how to manage these. I surveyed my students and found the majority have email accounts on their own, or own that their…

Internet Safety

Posted on May 15, 2008 at 11:41am 0 Comments

I am about to embark on creating an Internet Safety curriculum for grades 1 through 6. I am going to hit on topics dealing mostly with cyberspace; keeping your personal identification safe, choosing passwords and usernames, bullying. I am also going to be dealing with the parents. I am planning on having a "tea/coffee time" set up maybe once or twice a month to introduce web tools to them. How to talk to their children about Internet safety, etc.

This is going to be a huge project… Continue

Humorous Learning Experience

I am learning and rushing and trying to beat the clock to get things done each day but this is too funny. Instead of slowing down and finding resources' names who I am reflecting about, I have failed, thinking, "Who in the world will look at me, my page, my thoughts, my blog?" But when referring to a lady and a guy...few days later, they were there! commenting! I love it! Now I feel like I have actually people interested in my thoughts and am a part of their network. This is great! I have not… Continue

Views on wikis and blogs

Posted on May 4, 2008 at 7:00am 2 Comments

I was just reading someone's blog on wanting to know misconceptions on wikis and blogs. I have had many people confused about the two tools. A lady named Sylvia really summed it up well. "A wiki is a means to collaboratively get to an end product, something a teacher can look at, assess, and grade. It's easier to adapt your current curriculum to use a wiki, since curriculum is also product focused. (Of course, a wiki offers all sorts of… Continue

Overwhelmed

I am having these huge desires to implement too many new web 2.0 tools and have no classroom of my own. It makes me miss being the classroom teacher. Here is what I am envisioning for the school 08-09.

Ning - My school is going to NING! That is so exciting! Our small group meetings, book clubs, grade level meetings are going into the group area of the NING. I am very interested in what the teachers area going to think about… Continue

Hi Meliisa,

With your work as a Technology Coach, I recommend you take a look at Wiziq's virtual classroom and authorstream's power point presentation platform. Both are web based platforms, have a bunch of features and free basic service. Here’s a public class recording you might find of interest.

You did a very good job highlighting the different types of networking....if some had attended Gail's session on PLN, they would have been aware of what you were showing.

Hi Melissa! I'd be happy to help you with your blogs. I learned recently from my PLN (professional learning network) that Classblogmeister isn't excepting any more classes. We should check that out first. Lately, I've heard that a lot of teachers are going to edublogs. I have my personal blog here: nnorris.edublogs.org. Skype me at nnorris438. When ever I'm on line, my Skype is on.
