NECC Reflections

While I have already wrote a few things about NECC at my blog, I just wanted to say here that I enjoyed joining some conversations with fellow CR2.0 folks at the Birds of a Feather session at NECC in San Antonio!

Hearing the exchange of ideas was great, as was the encouragement to use this tool. It really does make a difference to see real people and hear real advice and concern, and I hope "we" continue to meet both at NECC and elsewhere.

Cropping and Resizing Graphics for the Web

This June-July in San Antonio, I'll be teaching a NECC workshop on Google Sketchup. I'm really looking forward to that. Each year, however, at our local VSTE (Virginia) state conference, I teach a popular workshop on Photoshop. I was recently asked a question about resizing images for the Web, and thought I'd share my tutorial.

Surveys with Google and InspireData

I recently did a screencast on using two different tools to gather data from teachers and see it in interesting ways. In the screencast I demo the use of Google's survey in their online spreadsheet, and analysis of the results in InspireData software.

Celestia

A lot of folks in our district like Google Earth, and now it's augmented with Google Sky. There's an older tool that I've shown to some teachers in the past that I also think is still worthwhile, called Celestia. It's a free download for Mac, Windows, and Linux users.

I've made an instructional video introducing the software; kind of a "try before you buy" experience to see if you want to invest the time. Celestia is an excContinue

Enjoyed your reflections on NECC. I hope things improve with the economy in general and with schools budgets and staff development funds so that conferences become available to more of our colleagues as they were in the past. Thanks for staying on top of the technology world for Goochland teachers and therefore our students. Tom

I liked your article on TechTimes! Over the years, I have read about and kept current with The DaVinci Institute.

John,
I really liked your "Research for Middle School" video. This would be useful for my computer tech class!

I ran out of thread on the discussion about luddite teachers so I thought I drop you a note and comment that my adminstator sends a daily newsletter to staff with horrific background, and animated clipart dancing all over the place. She doesn't know how to do an attachment. I'm not expecting technology leadership. Welcome to CR2.0
