I am the Ed Tech Curriculum Specialist for the Saugus Union School District, a 15 site 10,000 student elementary school district. I work with 500+ teachers and administrators on a variety of programs that are used in the district. I also plan and present staff development on new technologies and integration of technology into the classroom.
I have been a presenter at CUE 2007, Tech Ed 2007, and will be presenting at TRLD in San Francisco in January 2008, CUE in Palm Springs, in March 2008, Tech Ed in Ontario in April of 2008, and NECC in San Antonio, in June 2008.
Our district is looking at various writing mouse pad products and I'd be interested in hearing from anyone who has used any of the above, or any other similar pads. I've had an Interwrite Pad since November and really like it and the software it has. I've also used a simple relatively inexpensive iPen. The best part of all this to me is the fact that paired with a computer and projector, this is one piece of technology that can easily move about the classroom and can actively… Continue
It's clear that for some time now many classroom teachers have still not moved into the interactive age of learning. Many teachers are anxious to embrace new technology based on the latest trend, and not necessarily technology that will help to improve student achievement. Before I begin here I want to stress that a good teacher is a good teacher even if all they have is a paper and pencil. Hi Arlene. I was wondering if you have any high school contacts who would be interested in participating in a nationwide SAT Vocab Video Contest @ MIT university. You can view contest details at BrainyFlix.com Please let me know. Thanks!
I'm enjoying the IWB discussion too and I'm getting a kick out the responses it's generating. I'll be re-entering the fray when I get some time in the next few days.
Hi Arlene, I have found a school interested in the idea.
It is called Hadley Learning Community. It is a new building with lots of enthusiastic staff. they liked the idea of linking communication with politics....I will send you the email address.
Here is the website link for the school

I really like your comment on the 'forum' item 'research that shows technology supprts student achievement.
We have a new curriculum in the UK for 11 year olds from Sept 2008, we are trying to develop the 'collaborate' aspects of ICT content. A useful link is http://curriculum.qca.org.uk/
Arlene, your classes podcasts are adorable! So, so cute and funny and wonderful. I haven't thought much about using podcasts in school... what kind of microphone do you use to record the students? To check if I'm getting the idea right.. a podcast is simply an audio file we put up on the web somehow, probably in my case a class blog? I think I can figure that out : )
Hi Arlene! Thanks so much for "inviting" me. I've already started looking around, and I'm so impressed! It's exciting to find other people that share the enthusiasm for technology. BTW - Isa ordered the Ipen for me today! I can't wait to use it in my class
