@Mike Romard - thanks. The FireFox add-on is very useful.

Hello Sue.

People need to do the following:

(1) Click on settings on right side under your name
(2) Click on Email
(3) Select "None. I don't want to receive emails from Classroom 2.0
(4) Press Save

Now they will no longer get email notifications. That said, folks should make a point to visit once a week. I do that using a great FireFox add-on called Morning Coffee at https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/2677

Thanks Everyone -- I have also sent a message to Steve. Is there anything that you know of that I can do from my end to help manage this?

We've all been leaving comment here, on the Comment Wall for this group. As long as we are members we will get these updates. If we started a Discussion (see the link at the top of this "wall") in the group then we can each choose to opt in or out of it. What we've got below is sort of a discussion anyway. I've started a discussion called Welcome to Canadians Mashup which may be a better place to put all these introductions and welcomes. ;-)

Controlling the Email Flood
Any comment left on this "wall" will be sent to everyone in the group. Use it judiciously. ;-)

Click on the discussion link in the paragraph above.

If you leave a comment you will automatically get all further comments on that discussion. (The same is true for all discussions in ning.) You can opt out of this by ...

Scrolling all the way to the bottom of the discussion you will see a link that says Follow if you haven't left a comment on the thread but want to follow it as a lurker click it. If you are already following the discussion (because you left a comment) and want to opt out scrolling to the bottom of the discussion will reveal a link that says Stop Following. Click it and you wont get any more emailed comments about that discussion.

Pick and choose what interests you and Follow whatever strikes your fancy. If you've lost interest you can click Stop Following at any time.

Hope this helps everyone.

Cheers!
Darren

@Kathy @Sue, I just emailed Steve Hargadon about this, specifically asking for a digest form. I am sure other new groups have gone through this before, so please don't shut the network down. Email is virtual, after all, and hitting that big x is quite satisfying. :)

Sorry everyone -- I'm new to all of this and I have been trying to invite new members to the group. I had no idea this was happening. No wonder you're frustrated.

Try this -- if you go to your own page, the second bar down is your Profile Information. Click Edit. On the left select Email. There you can unselect everything except Messages sent to me, or at the Bottom try NONE. Does that work?

I will contact the people at Ning and here at Classroom 2.0 to see what I can do at my end to get that stopped. I will stop until Thursday to see if this settles down. Then I will try again. Notify me if you do not see any change. It may be that I need to sent an alert that I'm putting out lots of invitations so you can turn everything off for a while and then when that's done you can reselect the aspects for which you want to receive emails.

There's no way I want anyone inundated by a tsunami unwanted stuff. I guess I have not been getting it because I'm sending it!! I will shut this network myself if it can't be fixed.

Thanks Jan - I've tried controlling through that page already. I don't want to stop getting updates, just wondering if they can be consolidated . . . there doesn't appear to be that option.

Here is the link to control the oodles of emails. It also comes at the bottom of the emails we receive :)

No James, it's not just you getting oodles of messages. I've tried to play with the email settings and can't find an option to limit the messages. I've almost considered withdrawing from the group because my inbox is becoming littered.

Is there any way we can get daily or weekly updates?
Comment by James Dykstra on December 30, 2008 at 9:04am
Is it just me, or is everyone else getting e-mailed every time someone joins this group or leaves a comment? I've been getting dozens of messages a day and I'm not a moderator.
