About Me:
I teach and learn with Grade 6 students. We are exploring a lot of different things, including inquiry learning and enactment strategies (big fan of Jeffrey Wilhelm). Tech wise: VoiceThread, Windows Movie Maker, Photo Story 3, Pivot animation, and a few other tools to share our thinking. Learning to get the most out of the Smartboard just installed in my room. And I am working on a Master's degree; I experiment, ponder, and make mistakes every day.

Hmm... sufficient blogging time for a 11-12 year old. Our 11-12 year olds have 2 x 50 minute lessons a week in the computer room, but once they start blogging they want to add so much of their work online. However, even 50 mins per week is enough to quickly add something to a blog post. It would be good if they have all their work preplanned or even written before they got to the computers. Some of our students do not have internet access but the ones who do, will happily blog away at home on topics of their own choosing, but usually diary type entries. Delete Comment

Hey! ....got the pic on. Will write a profile soon! Thanks for telling me about this site. I can tell I'll be spending lots of time here. Very cool!

Good to be friends with you! Don't know if you checked out the wiki yet, but let's hang on until we get a few more contributors. I'm hoping that happens soon. Please pass this on to others that you know, if you think they might be interested. This could certainly be a lot of fun! While you're at it, you can start by simply creating a New Page using the Team Member template. Be creative or just go simple.

Hi Jan,
Hope everything is going well with you and your new Smartboard. Still waiting here, 9 days overdue now. Looks like it will be into June before we can try an activity.

Jan,
Thanks for the comment! I tidied up the links and added a link to this Classroom2.0 profile from your name- hope that is ok with you.
Reflecting on each post has been wonderfully cathartic, (and painfully slow, but a worthwhile trade-off).
I think you are right about the need for good pedagogy. I touched on that in the post and will elaborate a bit more on my response to your comment.
Thanks again,
Dave

Thanks for the friendship invite Jan!
I haven't had very much of a presence on Classroom2.0 recently but as soon as I finish moving my blog, (one-post-at-a-time and reflecting on every one of them along the way), then I will pop back over here and add more. Great to see your tech involvement, keep us up to date on the Smartboard... I just made one with the Wiimote, (actually a Gr. 7 student did it for me), but have not had much time to play with it yet.
Dave.
I thought Comox Valley had Middle Schools?

Hi Jan,
It is great to see classroom teachers infusing so much technology in their classroom. I can see that you are doing some great integration with some great tools. I learned of a new one I had not heard before and that is Pivot animation. I will have to go and check it out.
I am a full time computer teacher to an elementary school in Seattle and serve all the kids. I wish I could block out a whole hour to work with my students. Since I give all the teachers their breaks, they are only 30 minutes.
Good luck on your Masters degree, I am in the middle of my PhD degree with some time off because I am working on my National Boards Certification.
Let me know how I could help.
Peggy
