Diana Reid replied to Bruce White's discussion 'Student Profiles' in the group Canadians Mashup
Hi Bruce, I think you're going to get a lot of misleading profiles. Many of the questions conflate ideas. "I like to draw or doodle when I'm listening to music or in class." is an example. Students have to either say yes,…

Diana Reid replied to John Norton's discussion 'Words to Live By' in the group Stories that stick
Yes, absolutely. Teacher stories that enlighten the public are the ones that counteract the way the public sees teachers. Any adult who was once a child thinks that he or she "knows" what teachers think, how we act, why we do what we do.…

Diana Reid replied to Kevin Stachowski's discussion 'Collecting and returning papers electronically'
I use Wetpaint. Students can type their essays directly into the wiki, which is a positive for us, as many of my students haven't got reliable access to technology, so this allows them to work a bit at a time. I set a "window" of…

Diana Reid replied to Darren Kuropatwa's discussion 'Welcome to Canadian Mashup!' in the group Canadians Mashup
Hi everyone, I'm a high school English/Drama/Social sciences teacher in Ottawa, Ont. I'm currently using the Desire 2 Learn platform to teach online (and how I shudder at the 2 in that title every time). I also teach two face-to-face…

No problem -- I'll pass the instructions along now and you can try them when you have time.
1) on the Mainpage in Classroom 2.0, click the More tab and select Groups. If you don't see the map/flag of Canada, type 'Canadians Mashup' into the Search Groups box and then click the box on the left.
2) When you get to the Group page, under the tabs on the right you'll see a GREEN plus sign (Join this group). Click there and that should do it. When you go back to your personal page the logo should be in your group list.
3) Using the Comment Wall floods everyone's email boxes, so we're trying to use the Discussion Forums instead. Please find the "Welcome" discussion and introduce yourself to other members there. The map does work if you're in Internet Explorer.
Let me know if you have any problems & welcome!

HI Diana -- I read with interest your contributions to Steve's Future of Education forum. I'm interested to find that your district is way more conservative than mine in what it allows access to. We're pretty wide open with internet access (except our school which is so slow we can't get online much of the time) but we have severly restricted downloading policies. I'm feeling fortunate now reading about your daily struggle.

Are you interested in joining a Canadians group in Classroom 2l0. If yes, I'll send you the how to details. -SueH
