VisuWords is a free online graphical dictionary that is an excellent resource for language development and language support. You can type any word into the searchbox or click on Random to view random words defined. The site then searches for related words and then produces a user-friendly diagram. Each node in the diagram is clickable to view a definition of that word or double click on the node to expand the search for that particular term. In the example…

This semester I have been granted extended leave to implement digital portfolios in our school. I have some assistance from Croyden Secondary College in Melbourne, Australia. This gave me the bases on a web site to start from but I have enhanced it. We are encouraging the students to report using the Victorian Essential Learning Standards http://vels.vcaa.vic.edu.au/ but have included a section on career development.

I was honored to present at the Technology and Teaching Conference last week in Bismarck (notes in previous post). I also had the opportunity to attend several great sessions by leaders in the field. I will be sharing some of the information I gleaned with you. Much of the material in today's Byte is derived from a session by Chris O'Neal who works at the University of Virginia. I'd like to publicly thank him for the insights and resources he presented. (More about Chris.)

In all, there were over a dozen scenes with different facets of how the students interpreted the classic drama. Once the ELA students develop their scenes, with the use of construction paper and clay, the Technology students took pictures with the use of digital camaras. Once the…
