Collaborating for REAL Student Improvements!

As you visit/join this Distance Collaborations Group, you may want to give a few stats about yourself and your education position to let new/old group members know how they can collaborate with you.

Additionally, here's a terrific project where high school and college students can collaborate locally AND globally. There are infinite possibilities out there!

I'm a Grade 7 teacher in rural New Brunswick, Canada. My students (age 12-13) have laptops and as a class, we would like to collaborate with students in the UK.

I'm a new teacher and new to technology, but I would love to use wikis, Dabbleboard, VoiceThread... whatever the collaborating teacher would like to use, I suppose.

I teach Language Arts (which is my strong point), Math, Science and Social Studies. I'm open to suggestions about what we collaborate on.

Hi,
I'm a 4th grade teacher and am new to collaborative projects. My class recently completed an online project collaborating with schools across the world. My students were very excited and wanted to find a project were they could collaborate more directly with other classes. I am looking for collaborators on a fractured fairy tale project where students would share digital books of their stories.

Hi everyone
I am very new to Ning but have been involved in collaborative projects before and would like to have a go at some again. I teach ICT to all classes in my school Prep to Grade 6 and before I start a project need to have a think about the pros and cons when I only work with a class one session a week.

Hi Everyone -
I'm a high school media arts teacher (photography, video, internet media) and I'm looking for collaborators on a project involving creative writing and photography.
I work at the Arts Academy at Benjamin Rush, a small public high school in Philadelphia, PA where we emphasize integration of the arts into all academic areas.
I am currently partnering with our English and Spanish teachers to develop a project where students document their everyday lives using phone cameras or digital cameras. I would ideally like to find a class or classes who would also take pictures and then exchange them with us (using a wiki, blog, whatever). I'm especially interested in classes in Spain or some part of the spanish Speaking world.

Please contact me if you are interested and I can explain this in greater detail.
Thanks!

Hi Susan I'm a school teacher from NEpal. I run a school for poor family children. We are ashamed we dn't have access to technology at school. I wish We had it so that our school teachers and students could get benefit from educators around the world. I teach English as second language here. Hope i can learn more from like minded educators.

Estoy buscando una clase de primaria o secundaria para leer los cuentos de mis estudiantes electrónicamente (o sea por un wiki, etc.)

I am so glad to have found a connection to like minded educators. I will be combing through all the posts looking for collaboration partners, but I will also put a flag up here hoping that someone will find me.

I am a high school English teacher in Sonoma County California. I have a group of English 9 students and several groups of American Lit and Contemporary Lit students. I would love to work with other classes on collaborative documents or projects. Something as simple as a peer review group on Google Docs or a wiki would be great. Anything regarding American Lit or American history would be a good starter topic for discussion. And I have one particular project in mind...

The past few years I have teamed up with a Government class to create political parties amongst the students in my Contemporary Lit class. They studied issues in their Government class and then we put together party platforms in English class. These platforms were then posted online and our entire school had a chance to review them and sign up for the party of their choice. I think it would be great to extend this project so that students at sites across the country were developing party platforms. Perhaps we could even mix parties across "site lines" and have them create their platforms together on a wiki.

Any takers? Please contact me if you would like to discuss any sort of collaboration.

I'm so excited to see how many educators are actively pursuing distance collaborations! While I'm isolated in my classroom, I start to think that I'm some kind of anomaly at wanting to connect my students to the larger global learning community!
I teach in a K-12 interactive projects lab, part of a resource center that supports homeschool students and families in the Edmonds, Washington school district.
In the lab I facilitate explorations and discoveries using LEGO, robotics, computer technologies, audio and video technologies, and more. This year I've been seeking other teachers and students interested in collaborating via video conferencing.
My hope is that my students involved in robotics, such as First Lego League, programming, and engineering could meet regularly with another classroom to share discoveries, pose problems, collaborate on solutions, develop challenges, and build a learning team that opens students' eyes to global partnerships and connections.
