Please join our K-12 Google online Postcard exchange project. This project was started this month by my school in Beaverton, Oregon. We invite you to participate in our collaborative Google Map project (see URL below). It is open to classrooms of ALL ages and any location. The main goal of this project is to share famous landmarks, locations, or unique aspects of your home state or region. Go to my website to learn more about the project: http://sites.google.com/site/postcardgeography/Home ~P… Continue

My Graphic Design students competed in the Doodle 4 Google contest. Students were to join in the doodling fun around the intriguing theme “What if…?” Here are the submissions … which one do you like best? http://www.flickr.com/photos/23575283@N04/sets/72157603901276672/detail/

I still teach a basic computer application course (as opposed to working with HS teachers to integrate technology into their curriculum) and my goal is to make sure students have the tech skills necessary to be successful in class. I don’t, however, want to just teach “computer skills” - and teach technology just for the sake of learning technology. The past few years I have redesign my computer application course around themes, such as career exploration, teen issues, nutrition/recycling, and C… Continue

Years ago when I taught 4th grade I participated in a classroom exchange called "Postcard Geography". My students eagerly awaited postcards that we exchanged with schools all across the US. We created a large bulletin board with a map of the US and pinned the postcards next to the city is came from. It was fun to read about the area around the school and we often referred to our postcards as we studied the regi…

Okay, it's taken me months and months to get back to this, but sure, I'd love to talk to you about what you're doing and what your school is doing. Is your school a member of PNAIS?
I was a great fan of the postcard geography project when I was teaching six years ago, wonder how it's morphed in the emerging digital age.
About LITC, it is a challenging endeavor, promoting community-led community change. We have an open house coming up in December if you'd like to come, let me know.
Cheers,

I should also say just in case you dont know who I am that you commented on my cynical blog.
I have just woken up in the UK and you are just going to sleep so this is really weird with the time shift and all.
I spend my working life trying to encourage 'horses' to drink but they seldom do for various reasons and I become frustrated because deep down I believe this stuff works, but as I no longer have a class I cant show that.
It is really lovely to hear you say what you do with your kids. I would like to quote you in my presentations if that is alright with you?

I think this is one of those powerful online projects, and it is so easy. Great idea about pics of your town. If you are looking for e-postcards you can go to http://www.janbrett.com
She is a picture book illustrator, but many of her e-postcards can be used by adults. I think middle school students would find something they like.
Would love if you decide to join as a member as well.
Greetings
Hans
