edcamp unconferences

Have you been to an edcamp unconference yet?  An edcamp is a democratic, participant-driven professional development for teachers. Basically the attendees of the unconference decide which sessions to hold and fully participate in the delivery and discussion during a workshop.  Every edcamp is run a little different.  I am part of a team from Portland, Oregon that is hosting our 2nd edcamp next Friday, November 11th from 8:30am - 3:30pm…See More

Favorite:  Google Apps for Education Worst:  MovieMaker - it crashes all the time and is not compatible with newer mini-camcorders unless you convert the videos which is a pain!

I love Apple Remote Desktop. Only works in a Mac environment, but if that's what you have it's a great tool (monitoring, screen sharing, lock-out capabilities, document and application install, etc). If you are a Mac school using ARD in…

We use CrossTech SchoolVue. It is ideal for a wireless environment. It has been a pretty steady and effective lab monitoring solution, but we also use SchoolVue as an instructional tool as well. We use it during finals time to block access to…

Thematic Tech Units

Posted on October 28, 2007 at 4:09pm 1 Comment

I still teach a basic computer application

course (as opposed to working with HS teachers to integrate technology

into their curriculum) and my goal is to make sure students have the

tech skills necessary to be successful in class. I don’t, however,

want to just teach “computer skills” - and teach technology just for

the sake of learning technology. The past few years I have redesign

my computer application course around themes, such as career

exploration,… Continue

Hi Colette! Nice to meet you. I work for One World Youth Project, an organization that provides a unique global education experience to middle/high schools worldwide. We connect middle/high school classrooms with partner classrooms in other countries.

Check out this short video about the middle/high school student experience. Interested in getting your high school classroom involved in the 2012/2013 program year?

Hi Colette...

Thanks so much for the response and all the resources...

Not only was this my first time to attend ITSC but it was also my first education conference. Most people I met ASSUMED I was a teacher or some other certified professional. Well, I am self taught in all of this because of all the resources I have found online. I was shocked by how many teachers needed help and more resources with all of this. I just ASSUMED that they had everything they needed...

Besides being a Geek, I am a board member of our local Technology Charter School. I have to kids in the program in HS.

The reason I am even a member of classroom 2.0 is because I had a chance to meet and speak with Angela Maiers. Because of what she had to say, I decided that I should see how I can help Educators here on this site with info that I have spent the last ten years learning myself.

So, this is my continuation of what I learned at ITSC10.

Hi Colette,
I read your post on http://www.google.com/google-d-s/tour5.html#. I wanted to see if I could cite your response in my research paper for grad school on the implications of incorporating Google Apps in an English classroom. My professor asked if I could find out the date of your response (I didn't see it listed on your page). I've also tried shared presentations with students and found it very valuable. Thank you for your idea!

Hey Colette. I read the post about the Google Institute. Sounds great. I can't make it over there, but there are few Google Workshops for Educators being held in CA this summer. It would be a drive for me. Have you been to one and do you recommend it?

Hi Colette,
Thought you might be interested in some of these free online resources. You're probably familiar with most of them, but maybe you'll find something new. Unfortunately, I haven't organized them yet.

Hi Colette,
In December I had never seen a Wiki. My students and I jumped in with both feet and haven't looked back. The students are very excited to have a real audience. Please take a look at what they've created so far. RPG Maker XP Help. We would appreciate any feedback you have. Currently the wiki is protected, so you'll have to either email me your feedback or give it through Classroom 2.0.
Thanks!

Hi Colette. I was wondering if your students would be interested in participating in a nationwide SAT Vocab Video Contest @ MIT university. If not, perhaps you have some educator contacts you could direct me to. You can view contest details at BrainyFlix.com Please let me know. Thanks!
