About Me
I teach Introduction to Instructional Technology and Inclusive Practices. I'm writing my dissertation on the digital literacies and print practices students use as they interact on SNSs for school related purposes. I'm avid an user of Web 2.0 technologies and love developing projects and activities that get my pre-service teachers excited about using them to develop PBL experiences in K-12 classrooms!

Using Blogger in Instructional Technology

Posted on January 5, 2010 at 11:05am 2 Comments

Last semester I used Blogger for students to post all their assignments and have discussions! Suprisingly, despite being millennial learners, few of them had ever had a blog. They loved it!
Here is a link to one of my students' blogs

Information Literacy Activity for Students

For this activity I had students use bogus Websites to create Think Alouds using online reading strategies presented by Debbie Abilock.

Check out a student work sample!

Google Sites for Portfolio Construction

Posted on January 5, 2010 at 11:00am 6 Comments

For my final, I had students construct a portfolio with Google Sites. They had to chose one of the 10 projects we did throughout the semester and decide which one best met each ISTE standard. I had them reflect on how that activity helped them to think about using technology with their future students. Here is a link to one of these technology portfolios.

Online Book Clubs

Posted on April 23, 2007 at 6:11pm 0 Comments

I'm looking for examples of online book clubs for adolescents. Is anyone using Second LIfe, Skype, or Blogging to form book clubs between students who are different time zones? How do you manage it? What are the challenges?

Hi Denise. The mod directory should already exist within your main elgg directory. Unzip the mod on your computer and upload via ftp client.

I am not sure how you have it set up, but in most situations elgg would be in your public_html folder. Inside the elgg folder, there is a mod folder. Put your extension (widget as you called it) in there.

Log in as admin and go to the admin area and activate the extension. I assume you are talking about the "walled garden" extension.

I haven't worked with elgg in several months, so I am a little rusty.

I will be glad to assist you further need be. Feel free to mail me directly at steve at wellsny dot com.
