Roxanne Warner replied to Drew McAllister's discussion Day 3 - Explanations and future directions in the group Social Media 101
"A quote that I really could connect to comes from Ch. 4 and is on the topic of what people post on the internet: "Now that the cost of posting things in a global medium has collapsed, much of what gets posted on any given day is in public but…"

"I looked up more info on Eric Mazur, and I was so surprised to read an article from 1995 that indicated that he was using some version of handheld personal response systems in the classroom in the early 1990's. Wow, that guy really is…"

Roxanne Warner commented on Roxanne Warner's blog post "Here Comes Everybody"
"Ellen, thanks for sharing about the college lectures. I was not aware that some professors taught in that way, but it doesn't surprise me that they do these days. I think Eric Mazur is on to something with his way of teaching secondary…"

Cindy Kraft commented on Roxanne Warner's blog post "Here Comes Everybody"
"I agree that it is a daunting thought to ponder what is the next professiona or function that will become obsolete. I enjoy sitting down with the newspaper or magazine, and it's just not the same to curl up on the couch, or poolside, with your…"

Ellen Wilke commented on Roxanne Warner's blog post "Here Comes Everybody"
"Your post made me think about a recent visit from some former students who are now in college, and they were talking about the ability to view their professor's lectures online. For the most part, they said that they still attended class to…"

RIchard John McLaughlin commented on Roxanne Warner's blog post Using Technology with Kids
"I am currently learning exponentially about all of the technology that has surpassed me. When I was in school we learned how to type on typewriters. (JUST TO DATE MYSELF) I am very grateful now that I know how to type at about 40 to 45 wpm. Thank…"

Christy Prudence commented on Roxanne Warner's blog post Using Technology with Kids
"I must be getting back into school mode because when you said typing, I thought of the MAP going digital and having kids taking it online in the near future. I teach 4th grade, and the majority of my kids are still pretty slow at typing. I…"

Roxanne Warner commented on Meghan Tobin's blog post And I'm overwhelmed again...
"Meghan, I completely agree with you that this new endeavor is a bit overwhelming at times. I also feel like I don't even have enough time in the day to do what needs to be done for school and around my house, so how will I have time to comment,…"

Roxanne Warner commented on Ellen Wilke's blog post Reading the book...
"I had the exact same thoughts about feeling the responsibility to be engaged all the time on our social networks, Ellen. I know my schedule changes day-to-day and week-to-week. I have not had the chance to sign on to classroom2.0 for over a week…"

Roxanne Warner commented on Roxanne Warner's blog post What I Think About PLNs
"Well, in this case, I feel like I will be quick to learn but slow to advance. I am sure I will get all the basics down of how to respond, post, start conversations, etc., but I know I am a person who is busy and always on the go. So I don't…"

Using Technology with Kids

Posted on March 20, 2010 at 11:24am 2 Comments

I remember when I started teaching and my third grade team told me that our kids practice keyboarding in computer, I was amazed. Then it dawned on me that of course they need to be able to type early on in this day and age. The different activities we complete and educational websites we visit in class are so much more effective than when I was in school. I know our advanced… Continue

"Here Comes Everybody"

After reading the first three chapters in our book, "Here Comes Everybody," it left me with a few thoughts to ponder. One point that intrigued me was reading about how professionals of any kind are valuable during ordinary times, but become invaluable during revolutionary times (p. 69) because professionals are always concerned with threats to the profession. So I know I have a ton to learn about these networks and I am very excited, since after reading and viewing all the information about them I know how educational and effective they… Continue
