Martin Sieverding commented on Marie Digirolamo's blog post Filtering Software and Permissions for Students and Teachers
"As the IT person at my school, I work with blocked and unblocked sites often. The (almost) statewide solution we are using is called FortiGuard. Much of this is put in place on the state level and we are given training and support. Locally we have…"

"The technology used by our students will continue to wedge its way into our classrooms whether we want it to or not. As schools and teachers we need to create an atmosphere where they can use the tools available to them for educational purposes. We…"

Students, School, and Social Networking

I've been engaged in a conversation with some of my fellow tech coordinators in my state about social networking, more specifically Facebook, and how it all fits into schools and the curriculum. Some of the schools have blocked sites like this and a few others, definitely the minority, have left them open. The discussion has ranged from the blocking issue to teaching how to use Facebook and the deeper issues of privacy and posting in general. Here's my take: Our students are going to be using…See More

Hey Martin,

Our Brainyflix video contest just ended, and I wanted to thank you for helping us get the word out. We got 800 submissions from across the country!

That said, MIT was really happy with the results and will let us run another contest, so we're going for it! But this time, we're gonna have kids create Brainypics flashcards - which are images and sentences paired up with a one of our SAT/ACT words. The contest ends May 22nd, and there'll be iTunes and a cash prize like last time. To boot, we'll double the payout if the kids can hit a certain goal. More details at brainyflix.com/main/contest_rules.

Do you mind passing my message along to students and your colleagues again?

Thanks,
Jack

Hi Martin. I was wondering if you and your students would be interested in participating in a nationwide SAT Vocab Video Contest @ MIT university. If not, perhaps you have some educator contacts you could direct me to. You can view contest details at BrainyFlix.com Please let me know. Thanks!
