Thanks, Debra. I have looked over these pages, and they look very helpful. I am about to created a presentation for my superintendent, staff, and board of education outlining what we can do with a 1:1 program. Good Stuff! :)

Beginning a 1:1 initiative

I teach English and Spanish at Dawson School, a small school of 160 students in grades pre-k-12 in rural west Texas. With the tentative approval of my superintendent, I want to bring a 1:1 laptop initiative to our district. Many districts in our surrounding area have already done this, so we don't have "to invent the wheel." About Me: I teach Spanish and English at Dawson Schools in West Texas. We are a very small, rural, family oriented school. I teach Spanish I, II, III, English 7, and Reading 6. My wife is Diane, and my daughter is Sam who is a freshman at South Plains College. We have five dogs, three cats, and three tanks of fish. I enjoy reading, writing, trying to stay in shape, and just being with my family and friends. I am also upgrading my technology interests and knowledge.

I have seen the flip phones advertised at BB but know little about them. They do seem fairly inexpensive, portable, and easy to use. Might be nice to take out on a quick field trip.
As a HS teacher, I have pretty much stayed with Mini-DV cameras. With the multimedia course I have begun this year, I felt that would be the best choice (tried to do video as part of a Computer Graphics course will limited success- time issues). I inherited a Canon and purchased a JVC for this year and will be using Adobe Premiere as our school runs Windows-based PC.
The one thing I seem to struggle with is coming up with a simple project for the kids to cut their teeth on. As you know, HS students can be a challenge at times and need to be "motivated". Was thinking of a simple short "How to" video. What do you think? Suggestions?
