From the Insert Menu, Choose More Gadgets.... - find an RSS reader gadget (there is one in the "Featured" category, or search for "RSS"). Configure for the first blog feed, then repeat! Use a 3 column page layout to make it look…

Hey Klista, As for your first two questions, I'll just agree with what was already posted. All you need to do is request more accounts. We have over 600 and Google has always given us more when needed. The last question may not be something…

Media-new for me

Posted on March 18, 2009 at 6:30am 3 Comments

Ok-it's spring break and I've been up since 6 a. m. Not because I couldn't sleep, just because I like to get up early. I've spent the last 3 hours messing around with web tools I haven't had time to play with when school's in session. Yes, I think I am a nerd. But that's ok. I've been called worse.

The first type of media I started on this morning was Glogster. It's going to take a little bit more for me to get used to it. I set up an account for each of my 100 students. So now I'm… Continue

eMINTS Winter Conference

Posted on January 18, 2009 at 1:24pm 2 Comments

I'm working on a presentation I'm giving at the eMINTS Winter Conference about Web 2.0 Tools. My focus is not what they are, but how to use them to encourage higher order thinking skills, engagement, reflection, and questioning. I finally finished up the agenda today, so now I've started working on putting the plan together. In the process, I decided to update my classroom wiki and found the plugins on pbwiki. Very cool!

I finally feel comfortable about my presentation, but have a long way… Continue

Hi Klista,

With your work in Interest in Web Tools, I recommend you take a look at Wiziq's virtual classroom and authorstream's power point presentation platform. Both are web based platforms, have a bunch of features and free basic service. Here’s a public class recording conducted by Nellie Deutsch on Technology Integration.

Hey Klista,

Our Brainyflix video contest just ended, and I wanted to thank you for helping us get the word out. We got 800 submissions from across the country!

That said, MIT was really happy with the results and will let us run another contest, so we're going for it! But this time, we're gonna have kids create Brainypics flashcards - which are images and sentences paired up with a one of our SAT/ACT words. The contest ends May 22nd, and there'll be iTunes and a cash prize like last time. To boot, we'll double the payout if the kids can hit a certain goal. More details at brainyflix.com/main/contest_rules.

Do you mind passing my message along to students and your HS colleagues again?

Thanks,
Jack

Hi Klista. I was wondering if you have students or educator contacts who would be interested in participating in a nationwide SAT Vocab Video Contest @ MIT university. You can view contest details at BrainyFlix.com Please let me know. Thanks!
