yes I've been setting that up...sadly very few schools even want to hear about where they are weak. It's all CYA out there. And half the time the people on Boards of Education don't know any better either.
Well I walked out a month ago and took a job for much less money working at a supermarket. I had had enough. When an idjit admin requests a FIFTH rewrite of the IT curriculum because she does not know what she wants, you just pack up your laptop and…
My article on "Computer Science not just for big kids' has been published in the current (November 2009) issue of ISTE's Learning and Leading with Technology periodical. It touches on the value of, and curricular ideas for, exposing…
I moved over from teaching music to teaching IT five years ago. When I arrived at this school they were using floppies...no servers, no place for remote doc access, etc. (Kdg to 8th graders). And a faculty that has trouble finding a mouse. No…
I am happy to share out my own scope and sequences and standards overviews with anyone who wants to plow through them. The can be found here at my curriculum overview website
Have your admins check out Senior Systems for all needs on a school campus: accounting, registrar, etc. Part of this online database system is a report card system (with unlimited commentary space); gradebooks system; homework space; midterm…
Try dimdim. It is truly free for web conferencing up to 20 people. They also have paid options which are cheaper than WebEx. I'm not sure about using it for teaching per se, but I plan to use it to host webinars. The company front man has a…
I've tried dimdim (www.dimdim.com) and wiziq (www.wiziq.com).
The free vertion of dimdim does not require sing up for the invited.

I've been using NetOp for three years with pretty good results. Unfortunately due to some really stupid admin mistakes we've lost our key codes so I am going to buy a new one. Any alternatives out there? Any advice on other lab controllers would be appreciated
She is more than welcome to use mine. It was an eclectic mix of five schools and one municipal scope and sequence. It is for K to 8th grade but she can glean what she needs for middle school.
This may cause me to get flamed on here BUT...my admins think this subject should be a HUGE portion of my mere 27 hours a year with the kids. And my answer is....mommy and daddy have to learn how to use the internet and smartphone at home and…
This is EXACTLY the BS I am talking about. How the hell can the kids build a video for YouTube if someone has not shown them the very basic skills within the software??? An art teacher once said their most dreaded word was POSTER. As in "we…
I have been following your thread about some of the challenges you face integrating tech into your students' curriculum. It seems like the community has been able to offer some good feedback and resources! I'm sure eventually it will work out for the best for all involved.
However, if your admin or fellow teachers (or parents - however unlikely) were to read some of your comments, it might raise concerns or hurt feelings. This is an open forum and anyone can read your comments. Just something to remember as we navigate this amazing world of web 2.0.
Best of luck!
With your work in Digital Media at your Day School, I recommend you take a look at Wiziq's virtual classroom and authorstream's power point presentation platform. Both are web based platforms, have a bunch of features and free basic service. Here’s a public class recording you might find of interest.
