Have new-to-Mac students use Safari.  They're familiar with web-browsing most likely, so take them to a familiar site. One that is a great reward is kerpoof.com.  There they can draw a picture, create a movie, etc.     The…

Now all I have to do is make sure that vimeo is available within our district. My continuous peeve is that they block so much; but that's a problem for another day. Thanks for the help.

I clicked on this specifically to recommend vimeo, but looks like I was already beaten to it a couple of times. They let you post great high quality videos, and in my opinion the site is safer than YouTube or any other video sharing site.

How about vimeo (www.vimeo.com). Links could then be shared via twitter or email.

Places to host student created videos?

I'm having a small group of students create some iMovie videos. They are likely not superb instructional videos, but I want someplace to put them online so the students can have an audience for their work.It has to be done in school, so YouTube is out. I can use TeacherTube. What are other sites that fit the bill? Thanks for helping us out.See More

For digital collage: I really like GLOGSTER/EduGLOGSTER for creating a digtal collage/conglomerattion. I just think that it's extremely flexible and useful. Basic is free, and there's (of course) a pay version. It's good having…

I would suggest several headset microphones. They create much better sound than built in microphones. Probably not 1:1, but enough to pass around easily. Also other headsets for listening. I like big headsets with earpads I can wipe down with Clorox…

About Me

I've been providing technology support for students and teachers for about half of my 30+ years of teaching.

Just catching on here.

I just found this site in the last 2 weeks. After reading through a few of the discussions and groups I thought it a good idea to join and try to become more involved with the groups here.

I'll be most interested in seeing what other k-8 teachers are doing with students as far as "tech" is considered. I'm in an all Macintosh environment (much to the chagrin of our district's heirarchy!) so will be looking for ideas and apps that work on OSX PowerPC machines.

I support about 100 iBooks… Continue

The issue we have is funding. I have to make a good case to purchase licensing for MSOffice for the MAC when we already have it for Windows. Thanks.

Hi, Bob:
I have been teaching for 13 years, but this is my first year in the computer lab. We have MACs that also run Windows. Just about all of our programs run on the MAC side except we have MS Office for Windows only. We are considering purchasing MS Office for the MAC but don't know if we should make the change to a totally MAC lab. We have had lots of issues trying to run both platforms. What do you think?

Hello Bob,

I am a graduate student at California State University Fresno. I am looking for anyone who might know of a middle school or schools who would like to participate in my master's research project. I am trying to determine how much time middle school students (6th-8th graders) spend on line using social networking sites and on-line collaborative web sites to discuss academic content. I am looking for 1:1 laptop students and also students who do not use laptops in their classrooms. I need the following: school name, contact name and e-mail address. Thanks!

Hi Bob. I was wondering if you and your students would be interested in participating in a nationwide SAT Vocab Video Contest @ MIT university. If not, perhaps you have some educator contacts you could direct me to. You can view contest details at BrainyFlix.com Please let me know. Thanks!
