Hi, I run a grade 5 class in Hong Kong. We are currently in the middle of a big project that we would love to connect up with other schools to discuss our ideas. The conversation would be based around the problems the students have decided on, what…

Looking for international Skype partners

As a whole school, we are studying various parts of the globe in Social Studies for the next two months. Each grade has a different continent to focus on: Kindergarten - Australia, 1st - Africa, 2nd - Europe, 3rd - South America, 4th - Asia, 5th - ancient Middle East, 6th - ancient Egypt, 7th - ancient Greece and Rome.I thought it would be fun and interesting for students to use Skype or Voice Thread to share with people on those continents. The project is somewhat open ended since A) this is…See More

Maybe not interactive like you were hoping, but I like www.becybersmart.org for K-9 curriculum. Several strands of info and expands on concepts as grade levels increase. I often pull in Web 2.0 tools as extensions or teach the lessons immediately…

Not appropriate for adults, although cute. I use this site for my youngest students (ages 3-4) to learn the mouse. http://www.headsprout.com/code/launchMA.cfm For the youngest kids, I do a lot of matching games and coloring pages so they get the…

I don't do podcasts on a regular basis, but each grade level 3-8th will have done one by the end of this year. We did a full class podcast in 3rd, are working on individual ones in 4th, partner podcasts in 5th, partners in 6th, individuals in…

As already mentioned, be sure to include administration. If you choose to respond to the parent email, my suggestion is to blind copy admin on your responses.

ISTE Teacher NETS growth assessment scale

I'm in charge of the tech PD in my building and would like to start tracking teacher growth from year to year. I'd like to use the NETS-T as my list of "objectives" or "standards" and have teachers self assess or rate themselves - ie awareness, beginner, integrator, mentor - or something like that. Before I start reinventing the wheel, anyone know of such an assessment tool or something similar?See More

Bernadette Roche replied to Patrick H's discussion 'I'm looking for Google Docs, PBworks, and Glogster classroom ideas'
Not sure what you might be looking for - lesson plans, ideas, etc. I used Google Doc with a class to create a text messaging glossary and another class used Glogster to create decades collages illustrating important events and people.

Unfortunately, even the other book-creator we know, Big Universe, has gone to fee-for-service, as well. We at TeachersFirst.com just discovered all this today. Let's hope the economy does not take down any more great tools. You might try…

Hi Bernadette,

With your interest in Online Collaboration, I recommend you take a look at Wiziq's virtual classroom and authorstream's power point presentation platform. Both are web based platforms, have a bunch of features and free basic service. Here’s a public class recording conducted by Nellie Deutsch on Technology Integration.
