ke a document with this info on it and save it for future reference. Then I ask them to write me a short letter and to share it with me. I see it in my list of shared docs. I open it, make a few comments and share it back. Once we have that system perfected, that's how they submit all work to me for the rest of the year. I can ask to see drafts and respond to them quickly. I also use a bank of stock comments for common mistakes and drop these in with a neat program for the Mac called TypeIt4Me. Been around for years and there are several worthy imitators. Students can also peer review or do group projects quite easily. I might also add that Zoho Show--their version of PowerPoint--also makes a nifty tool for in class presentations. If they share with me, then all I have to do is open up their file and let them have a go with it. Much easier than the time consuming process of working on the network to locate a file and opening it. Or worse, trying to email ppt files--a nightmare! Again, the share feature makes team work and collaboration a cinch. I hope every teacher gives Zoho a serious look. Google docs is also very capable. I especially like Google Notebook for web research.…

d system. I do, however, appreciate the ability to access documents anytime/anyplace as well as the ability to share and collaborate online. Therefore, I've been searching for good applications. Features that are important to me: 1) Concurrent editing 2) Export/Save as popular formats 3) Reviewing features (track changes/commenting) 4) Offline editing 5) Sharing (to world, groups, and individuals) 6) Integration with other services (ideally, open API so others can develop for/with it) The first I tried was Zoho Writer. I really do like all of the Zoho apps. They've got a good suite as well as other peripheral products. I found Writer to be easy to use, but it didn't wow me at the time (this was about 6 months ago). I then tried Google Docs as I've slowly been moving to many of their services. Google Docs did wow me with its simplicity and its integration (though the integration with Firefox isn't working very well right now). I liked the ability to do concurrent editing. Neither of these is good enough to get me off Word yet. There is one simple feature....Reviewing. Track changes and comments are the life-blood of editing and cooperation (note I didn't say collaboration) as I currently practice it. I haven't seen this available in any app yet and would like to have it. Coventi Pages has this to some extent, but still not as well as Word does. (I'd even settle for close). MoonEdit also looks like it has potential. When doing concurrent editing, each user has a different color cursor. Neat addition in my mind.…

Docs, Zoho Writer, ThinkFree, WriteWith, YourDraft, or others. Which are your favorites and why? What features are important to you? (If you're feeling verbose) What are the pros and cons of the programs you've tried? Hopefully, these discussions will provide an unparalleled reference for new users making choices about what tools to use. s - online collaborative word processing http://docs.google.com YourDraft - Online draft - shared editing - No registration neccessary http://www.yourdraft.com WriteWith - online collaborative word processing http://writewith.com/ Zoho Writer - online collaborative word processing http://writer.zoho.com/ WriteBoard - online collaborative word processing http://writeboard.com/ The applications share similarities and differences. So far I have found google docs very useful for working with my team - it enabled us to build and refine our curriculum online, from home, instead of spending extra hours in school. I hope next year to use google docs with my students for both individual and group work.…

logy in the classroom and the pedagogical nature of your lesson plans. This year I did a collaborative writing assignment with my middle school science class on Zoho writer. Everyone contributed to an on going story about how to remember pi (3.14...) I taught them the Peg system to remember numbers by changing them to letter and words. This way, the students contributed to the story from home as an assignment. I also use Wiziq to tutor some of my students from home. I also tutor my MathCounts students on Wiziq as it has an interactive white board. I will be teaching a class on Wiziq next month on how teachers can use the Peg system in class. Do you have any interests in sharing your practice to the teachers in DIgos City? Yes, I do. I have video on my siyensya site of me teaching a density lab with about 100 4-6grade students back in 2005. I will be going back there this summer and this time I hope to teach 4 or 5 different days on different topics in science. I'll do the density, rockets and Newton's 3rd law, and some others that are inexpensive to do. They don't usually do too many science labs there as the students don't have money to pay for science lab supplies. Are you secondary or elementary? I am certified in Pennsylvania in Math grades 6-9 and General Science 6-12 Where in Philadelphia? I live two hours north on Philadelphia, near Scranton, PA Do you have experience in digital media? My school uses Smartboard technology so many of my resources are now in digital format. I scan lots of things, save them to jump drives and bring them to school. I am now recording some of my labs and activities on digital video to post and use at other times. I am always interested in the Philippines and maybe living, (semi-retiring) there and keeping active in my teaching and our non-profit.…
