Recently retired Head of ICT - Consultant for ICT
About Me:
Originally I qualified as a teacher of Technology and have been totally commited to staff development ever since.
Trading as 'Maximise' I have been providing staff support in ICT for some 25 years. Initially employed as a Peripatetic Head of IT for some 6 years in Croydon and then as a Director of Technology in the North East. Both working for LEAs and now freelance I provide IT Solutions for Education, INSET, CPD, Curriculum Development, advice on installations, cabling, classroom layouts etc. I encourage end-users in all aspects of IT applications including MS Office, Concept Mapping, Graphics, IWBs, Admin etc.
Although I consider myself to be a specialist for ICT at KS3/4/5, I have always worked closely with all staff in whole-school development. My particular concern is that ALL subject areas, admin staff, technicians and LSAs included, should be using ICT to maximise both teaching and learning.

VLE implementation in schools

Calling all HoDs/SLs for ICT, Network Managers and LA advisors for ICT/VLEs

I have recently been granted a Naace research bursary to investigate the implementation of VLEs in schools (in the UK). To that end I am now consolidating my proposal and planning out the details of a research tool. Before I circulate the finished version of my questionnaire/survey I would like to trawl further opinions on the progress of VLEs, bearing in mind the expectation that every school…

Ray,

My apologies for not repaonding way back when ...

I am very much interested in anything that is student-centered and has a chance of engaging students in their own learning and sharing. The bluring of learner/teacher roles is something that has the potential and added value for all involved...

I look forward to future conversations...

I am not sure if you want to animation, but Clifford Cohen at AnimAction has an interesting and affordable software package that I think might be easier to use than Flash: http://www.animaction.com/ Anyway, sure beats a Power Point and worth investigating.

Hi Ray. I have worked with schools who have implemented Moodle to varying degrees and with varying success. Mainly Senior High Schools which here in WA cover the students from ages 12/13 to 17. The biggest impact has been where the staff have seen the potential and wanted to work with it. Some of the challenge in the opportunity is the encouraging busy folk to see the potential of the tools in their current curriculum. The most recent version is looking far more amenable to what schools are looking for as a useful toolset. One SHS I worked with used it as the Intranet page, migrating their previous years of work from FrontPage, and that was a good example of a school-wide approach which encouraged ownership and implementation.

Ray, I think perhaps SHOWING you face to face would be best, but I have some webcasts that may be archived that you could view. However, simply put Moodle changed the way I teach forever. And I don't say that lightly.
