I will be teaching Jr High social studies this fall and would like some different projects you can do to incorporate technology into the classroom. The 7th grade is geared to Civics and the 8th grade is geared to world geography. We have laptops so access is there for us.

With the election approaching this fall, is there any good websites for discussion for my students.

Hi Kim,

This link shows a lot of polls and candidate trackers for the upcoming election. It's a great website with all the current stories: http://www.politico.com/2012-election/

This link is GREAT! I personally use this one to learn about the candidates and read up about the major issues facing the elections. It's definitely user friendly for 7th and 8th graders also! http://www.cnn.com/ELECTION/2012/

Hope this helps!

Michelle

I teach a Junior High computer class but in it I had my students use presentation in Google docs to create a presentation about a place in Nebraska.  It had to have certain criteria like location, why it is important to Nebraska, how many people( if it is a town), and more.

You could build presentations on Prezi.com. It's a nice alternative to PowerPoint and can do some pretty amazing things when you get the hang of it.
