I teach 5th grade and have been frustrated with math curriculum for years.

Many middle school teachers in our district have been able to use a program called CPM (College Preparatory Math) and have seen growth in student understanding of math concepts. Students work through situations where they discover and work with concepts.

I was wondering if anyone knows of a program with similar structure for upper elementary students.

What curriculum do you use now?  We have Math Trailblazers which I think addresses some of that.  It's not perfect and does require some supplemental work at times but I'm pretty happy with it overall.  I feel like it helps students understand the concepts behind the computation and gets them to think about what they are doing.

We are using Harcourt. When we get the money we will be adopting envision.

I will check out Math Trailblazers... thanks!

Have you looked at Dan Meyer's take on math textbooks? Check out
