Hi.. I am new to Classroom 2.0 and thrilled to have stumbled across it. Excited about the prospects of connecting with other elementary tech teachers around World. Looking forward to sharing ideas and improving my skills as an elementary teacher.
Eve, I'm glad it worked for you. I actually did the cemetery one in moviemaker and then did the voice over with a microphone directly into moviemaker. Would have worked better if the voices of the students did not vary so much--hard to set the volume right. i'll have to check out your new post. Appreciate all your tips on science notebooking and have forwarded your notebooking blog to my teammates.
Moon Phase add--didn't have the heart to post this on the front page! I saw a great project---Oreo cookies opened and the icing being carved into the phases of the moon!! Fun and nummy.
Timing is everything when it comes to the projects!
I will be trying notebooking for the first time in an outdoor science unit that three of us teachers in our school are piloting. The unit is from the Missouri Conservation Department. I think the notebooking will be very effective since the students are observing outdoor conditions each day. But I know just the basics about notebooking and I'm sure there is lots to it. I will check out your blog on this!
I exactly see what you mean about large projects... Hang in there with the composting!!!
my History Comes Alive...(cemetery) project feels that way at times. It is ongoing...one class passes the torch to the next. I have found it a little easier to fit it all in by going cross-curricular...we read, write about the people who are memorialized there, learn about weathering and. erosion for science, perimeter for math, etc all centered around the cemetery, for a few weeks. The cemetery is then our "curricular anchor". Have you done cross-curricular work with the composting at all? Are you doing notebooking in science?
Thank you! Glad you like it...a great way to share a project! I used still photos from throughout the year and we inserted them in the order we wanted in Windows moviemaker. Then the kids do the voice-overs right into Windows moviemaker with a microphone. So easy! Each year, I make a "class movie" like this. It uploads into blogger as easily as pictures do. An added benefit, if we need to present info on our project for a conference or to a district event, we have a little movie to use as an intro and then the students can do a question and answer afterwards. So cool to have students present this way! I carry it around on my jumpdrive just in case I have a chance to show it to someone for funding for the project and one time I did have an alderman "cornered" at a party looking at it! HA!
One of the schools I serve has a very active after school Environmental Club. I've emailed the principal to see who the sponsor is so you can contact her if you want. N.
Hey Evie!
Jack and I had family portraits (yes, even the dog and kitty) done at Thanksgiving for Christmas presents down in Port Royal. This is my favorite of the two of us. I stumbled across this site (being trapped while sick) and have been looking around. I think your notebook blog is a great idea!
I'm looking hard at using ipods in the classroom there are some neat neat ideas on here.
Eve,
Check out my class wiki that explains some of the collaborative projects. Also, check out our partner classroom's wiki site (she is much better at updating the site than I am)
Eve,
Yes, I did. I created "classroom accounts" on google where only I knew the passwords and was able to log them into their google accounts. Send me a message if you'd like any additional info on the logistics of the collbaorative projects......

Isn't it great to see how thrilled the kids get when someone notices their work--especially when it's someone so far away...loving the blogs!

I saw this and immediately thought - hmmmmm, I feel a notebook assignment developing. Also a generally cool site.
