Katy, your link to Kathy Cassidy's first grade blog page is awesome. I love the whole concept of having children write to communicate their thoughts at an early age (I was brought up to be seen and not heard!!). Blogs, wikis, web pages, videos…
Hi Denise,
A gentle reminder about giving the innovative Nail It Now keyboarding method a "go". In these days of hard economic times and the need to integrate technology with daily “real” class work, typing software programs…
Thank you, Denise, I like your style (and appreciate the way you responsed),
I don't have your email. If you send me an email to georgie@nailitnow.com.au, I will send you the LEFT side of the keyboard and Exercises PowerPoint slide…
Hi Denise,
If the creator had a purpose in equipping us with a neck, he surely meant us to stick it out . . . so here goes. Not one person has commented on my two posts about the Nail It Now keyboarding method. I know it's totally different to…
Why not teach your Kindergarten students the location of the letters on the keyboard? I have devised a fun game where early elementary school students take it in turns to be "fingers" and jump on a body-sized keyboard on the floor when…
Hi Denise,
BBC Dance Mat is probably the most fun of the suggested software programs. I trialed it along with 8 other programs last year (my trial results are at www.nailitnow.com.au/typingtutor/preview/keyboarding.html)
Fun is good, but it still…
Hi Denise,
Like learning to ride a bicycle, learning the mechanics (the letters on the keyboard and correct finger use) should be fast and, then, this new learning should be put into practice immediately and continually (use it or lose it!). Typing…
I am a (kind of) teacher, but not in the education system. Several years ago, I walked out (very dramatic.) on a well-paid job after 11 years because I couldn't put up with the new mediocre management. I hate bureaucracy and all the talking. I think it's much better to "give something a go", rather than endlessly talk about it.
To cut a long story short, I had to learn Microsoft Word (W4W at that time) fast to get another job. I learned from the manual and it was boring and tedious. I decided there had to be a better way to learn, a way where you quickly got the "Wow, I can do this" feeling and that was the start of my "teaching" career. Then, a neighbour asked me to teach her how to type and I came up with a method based on quirky association words to memorise the keyboard
For the past 8 years, I have sold my lateral-thinking tutorials online (I am a hopeless salesperson and love the fact that visitors can come and see what is on offer without me having to say a word!)
I am an Australian and have an Australian Terrier called Tommy the Terror. He's a very feisty 4-year-old who rules the roost and makes me laugh heaps. When I was younger, I travelled the world extensively with my twin sister (travelling by ship whenever we could - love shipboard life) and it was a great education. I hope to again one day. In the meantime, I love reading, walking and food

Hi Georgina,
There are wonderful folks in this community, who love kids learning and whose vocations to nurture that learning go far deeper than any job descriptions could contain. As you are, I'm most affected by the friendliness and helpfulness.
I think the subject just fizzled out. I hadn't been checking my discussion comments closely and so missed yours, but I think people don't stay with a topic too long. You should make a new title and repost it to get a new discussion going that will attract some fresh attention.

Welcome, Georgina.
I like your entrepreneurial spunk! Perhaps in this relatively new Web2.0 world of computing, you can develop some first-class tutorials to add to your repertoire.
