Hi, Durff,
Happy Mother's Day.
Thanks for all your wonderful links and words of wisdom

Kim Cofimo's words of wisdom = "Teachers who use technology in the classroom are: flexible, willing to take risks and try new things, not afraid of failing, able to learn from their students, adaptable, and comfortable with the fact that they are not the smartest person in the room. Cultivating this kind of mindset is the first step to understanding how to use technology successfully in the classroom." What kind of teacher are you?

Lady Greenfield, professor of synaptic pharmacology at Lincoln college, Oxford, and director of the Royal Institution, "...told the House of Lords that children's experiences on social networking sites "are devoid of cohesive narrative and long-term significance. As a consequence, the mid-21st century mind might almost be infantilised, characterised by short attention spans, sensationalism, inability to empathise and a shaky sense of identity". Hi Durff,

I noticed you're a very active member of Classroom 2.0 in both the forum and in blogging. I'm a student at Georgia Tech and am interested in how you got involved with the site. I'd love to chat with you about it. Let me know if you're interested via my comment wall, thanks!

Hi Durff. I was wondering if you have students or educator friends who would be interested in participating in a nationwide SAT Vocab Video Contest @ MIT university. You can view contest details at BrainyFlix.com Please let me know. Thanks!

Yes! I'm a bit of a Gee fan. I've implemented a lot of his principles of learning in my class to try and motivate students to attend class and complete work (I teach in a day treatment center for emotionally impaired students). I'm really interested in how to structure my curriculum delivery to mimic what makes video games so addictive (like moving up levels, personalizing avatars, rewarding small gains, etc.) and I'm having some success. I'd love to talk about Gee's stuff if you're interested.

so let me get this straight.....I do a new podcast and it is updated on all those things? I visited that site and can't really tell whats going on. Obviously it updates all of those things at the same time....but do I need to do something? I couldn't figure out the beta code thing, so I requested it, but it said it would take a few days. So, did you hook that up for all your accounts or something. Either way, thanks for the link. I'll look into asap.

Someone wrote me and told me you put my podcast out on your twitter. Thank you. That was noble of you. Off to school....have a good day.

At least check it out. If not, it's all good....I'm sure you have a great radio voice:)

Online Safety

There are three things I teach learners never to put online:

1. their name
2. their photo
3. their location

We, in parentis loci, should not be doing these either. Learners in my rooms choose and use screen names and avatars. We will say the city and town and country of our school for collaborations but not our street address.
Alec Couros' recent post http://educationaltechnology.ca/couros/1203 puts this reason in perspective.
