Hi Maestra! Hope you're enjoying the winter break. I was wondering if you, your educator contacts or students would be interested in participating in a Vocab Video Contest @ MIT university. We'd really like to get Virginia students involved. Please let me know. Thanks!

Hi maestra,

First and foremost, we use PS3 for Digital Storytelling...writing a personal narrative, adding images, voice over, and music to create a powerful project. My DST webpage is http://jonorech.wikispaces.com There you will find examples, tutorials for using PS3, and teaching strategies.
In addition, I have used PS3 to create a "digital Documentary" as a followup to a research paper...The idea is to create a "Ken Burns" documentary feel to it. Our health teachers use it to create Public Service Announcements, bio teachers use it for ethical pro/con research topics...and the list goes on. SOme teachers don't like it because you cannot use video; I prefer it. Using stills requires students to focus on narrationinstead of "making a movie" We have kids use their own pix as well as supplemental images from the web. Flickr/ creative commons is a great place to get wonderful images that are legal to use. Let me know if you have any questions or want to talk more:

Welcome from the other side of the water! Were you in London this summer also? I have a "Mind the Gap" plaque on my office wall.
