I agree with Lorianne and recommend Voicethread! I love the idea of making these digital class books! I used it with Kindergarteners in a lab situation, but I spent too much time helping set up microphones and troubleshooting 25 computers.  I…

Try the "Learn to Read" section of starfall.com.  The students can play along as a group.  http://www.starfall.com/n/level-a/learn-to-read/load.htm?f abcya.com might give you some good ideas as well.

I checked there, and there are a ton of lists, but I'm still having trouble finding blogs that will have updates and articles.   Thanks for the reply, though.

ELL/2nd Language Blogs??? Need some help!

I teach a class for Aurora University.  One of the assignments is to find a current blog to follow throughout the class and offer a review/presentation. This current class I have five teachers who teach either bilingual or ELL classes.  I'd like to point them in the right direction, but this is one subject that I really lack extra knowledge on. Can anybody point me to some good resources?  I'd love some blog links, and/or possible people that might have the right info. Thanks in advance for the…See More

Have you considering being a tutor? With larger class sizes next fall, students will get even less individual attention. Parents want their kids to succeed and will get an extra job or give up something to be able to afford tutors. I know people here in Miami making $25 to $75 an hour doing one-on-one tutoring in math (highest paid) and other areas. biggest challenge is getting started, finding the students to be tutored in areas you are comfortable in.
If you still have a job now, get the word out that you will be available to tutor starting in May (or sooner, after school). You shouldn't tutor anyone who is in your class, but they all have friends. Let the counselors at the schools nearby know that you are available too. Some afterschool and Saturday programs would love having a real teacher involved too. Depending on how much you can get to tutor, you might even make more than you did as a teacher.
Maybe you could work with high school students in preparing their portolios to apply to fine arts programs in college.
Good luck and be creative in what you do. I hope that the situation improves and you get hired back.
