"Quote away!! I'd really like to see K-12 using the internet to put kids in touch with experts in various fields... Not only will the kids be learning from the best, but the teacher can learn more at the same time. The kids will take the…"

"If the students will be assigned to either the North or South, why not set up a classroom blog (or one for each side of the argument) and have the students post comments depicting the reasoning behind their support of one side or the other. The…"

"Tamara, Not sure what age/grade your students are. I really like the idea of the game show format for review of the people of the Civil War. I have a concern that having the students explore on or the other side of the causes will leave them…"

I need Feedback!

I had to create a lesson plan for U.S. History. I focused on the causes and the people of the Civil War. For the causes of the war, I decided to let the students do a project. Basically, I would assign the students to either the North or South and they would have to write a newspaper article in the point of view of a journalist from that time. For the people, I decided to do a game show, asking questions about certain figures that I covered. I was just wondering what you guys thought about my…See More

Tamara replied to Sean Healy's discussion Your Feedback re: Video in Online Learning
"I think videos could be helpful in almost every context. Personally, I remember things a lot better when I have visuals and other sources to help enforce information. Reading from a textbook can get a little dry and boring. For instance, when I have…"

Lesson Plan for US History

In my Interdisciplinary Studies class, I have to create a lesson plan for the important figures of the Civil War as well as issues that led up to the Civil War. We also have to inetgrate a web 2.0 tool in each lesson plan. For instance, I was planning to use a wiki to represent the important figures and a blog for the issues. In the wiki, the students could then edit and add other acheivements/ failures that I didn't mention about a certain figure. In the blog, students could debate about the…See More

Tamara replied to M. SESHAGIRI's discussion PRODUCTION OF VIDEO FOR THE BENEFIT OF STUDENTS
"In my IDS class, my teacher puts up readings on the moodle site as well as a video to reinforce the information. It definitely helps me because it puts what I read in sharper perspective and backs what I learned through my readings and lessons. I…"

Tamara replied to Andrew Pass's discussion Textbooks?
"In the future, there's a good possibility that we might not even have textbooks anymore. A good example of this image is the ipad. Thin, light, and a presenter of multiple possibilites, the ipad can replace a textbook and provide interactive…"

Tamara replied to Patrick Lynch's discussion Moodle anyone

Tamara replied to Diana Hansen's discussion Does technology bring connections or stress?
"People always get stressed when they are trying to learn something new, and the same goes with technology. For example, when I first started using Facebook, I absolutely hated. I didn't know where anything was and it felt pointless, but once I…"

Tamara replied to Daniel Boyle's discussion Blogs v. Wikis v. Web Page
"Well, all three, in a way, are similar. Wikis allow the students to go in and edit other people's works, so if you're trying to get the students to collaborate and share ideas, that would probably be a good tool. I always viewed blogs as…"
