About Me
Currently I am involved as a program evaluator, working as a consultant to Educational Support Services (San Mateo, CA) with a primary focus on data collection and analysis. Current projects include evaluations for various Statewide Educational Technology Services (SETS) projects, various California Technology Assistance Projects (CTAP), and the CA Statewide CTAP/SETS evaluation. I recently worked with Carmel Unified USD to carry out a technology audit and help them develop an EETT formula tech plan. I wrote two EETT-Competitive grant applications in funding rounds 2 and 4, winning in both rounds. In 2000 I started a multi-year job as consultant to CTAP Region 5 (Santa Clara County Office of Education Regional Lead Agency), managing a number of projects including the Educational Technology For High Schools Grant Program (AB2882), CA Technology Survey, writing the Region 5 Implementation and Year-End Reports, and writing the successful 2002-2005 CTAP application and regional plan. I am currently one of the TechSETS cadre members. For three years prior to that I was Director of Technology at Charles Armstrong School, Belmont, California (a private 1-8 school for children with dyslexia). During my tenure I implemented many technology-based initiatives including automation of office processes, staff development programs for office productivity and curriculum integration, use of student email accounts and student server-based folders, a custom student information system (later supplanted by PowerSchool), statistical analysis of students test scores, and a computer help desk. Prior to that I was an entrepreneur, founding several technology-based companies based on innovative product ideas. As CEO of Zofcom Incorporated, Palo Alto, CA from 1990 to 1992 I helped develop a tongue-touch keypad for people with quadriplegia (http://www.newabilities.com), authored the company's business plan and obtained initial capitalization, wrote the product's successful FDA 510K, and wrote Department of Education SBIR Phase I and Phase II grants. As co-founder and VP Operation of PMC Energy Systems, Berkeley, CA from 1983 to 1985, I helped develop a solid state motor controller for the electric vehicle industry (http://www.curtisinst.com), authored the company's business plan and was instrumental in the successful acquisition of the company.
