No, I do not think the classics should be required reading in schools. First of all, any students who want to avoid reading the classics can buy the less-than-illustrious Cliff Notes and skip the experience. Secondly, I feel that students today do…
I work for EASTCONN as a staff developer for school districts in the Quiet Corner of CT. Web2.0 tools are so exciting for me because of their potential to provide kids with authentic, project and problem based learning experiences and they are free! I work with teachers and students on weaving the best of what the Web2.0 tools have to offer with best practices in teaching and learning.

Nice to hear from you. A while back I set up http://ctednet.ning.com/ just for the purpose that you articulated, but I haven't yet promoted or pushed it. Would love to chat with you about generating some momentum for a forum like this. Feel free to email me at sarah [dot] edson [at] ct [dot] gov and maybe we can set up a time to chat. Would love to hear how your other efforts are going.
Hope you're enjoying the winter break. I was wondering if you, your educator contacts or students would be interested in participating in a nationwide Vocab Video Contest @ MIT university. We'd really like to get more students involved from Connecticutt!
You can view contest details at BrainyFlix.com Please let me know. Thanks!
With your interest in Web 2.0 tools I recommend you take a look at Wiziq's virtual classroom and authorstream's power point presentation platform. Both are web based, have a bunch of features and free basic service. Both technologies might be very helpful to the staff and students of the school districts you work for.
Hi
I do use Wordpress for YouthRadio (which we hope to get up and running again this year). You can upload and store MP3 files right in WP, but I pay for an account with Box.Net because I use it for all sorts of storage and sharing of a variety of files. And I like having ownership of all of my files.
WP has been fine, although I kind of wish we had started in Edublogs.
On another note, I went to school at ECSU, so I know your neck of the woods quite well.
Hi Rebecca,
Did you notice the comment on our DRA discussion about wanting a copy of your PowerPoint which describes the differences between DRA and DRA2? Would you be willing to either post that through Slideshare or email it to me and I'll post it on our Reading Teachers Group page?
Thanks!
Michelle
Welcome, Rebecca!
So glad to have you a part of our Elementary Reading Teachers group! We're gaining members every day, so I'm hoping to have some RICH discussions this year!
