We have had issues with this for many years, but in the past two or three years we have finally convinced our tech people to start allowing access to sites like YouTube, Glogster, and others. It took many arguments and a lot of evidence to convince…

I use Prezi, MovieMaker, GoAnimate, and Animoto, among many others. I think the key to using all technology is to have the project not only be interesting to the students, but also have it accomplish a number of the standards or objectives of your…

Thank you! The Virtual textbook is what I had found and was planning to show them. We start training tommorow, so we'll see how it goes!

What an amazing and helpful answer! Thank you so much for taking the time to respond. Some of these links I have already posted for them, but I start the training tommorow, so your thoughts will definitely be passed on to our district curriculum…

Get another partner in the school so you aren't the only one pushing this on the science teachers. If the school isn't spending the $ on textbooks and is making the teachers also become textbook designers and authors, at least get the…

I think that is great. Can the students help make a textbook? Can they use a wiki to collaborate on topics covered. I would love to have faculty at my community college do the same. I tried to implement a website like this for our science (biology…

Thanks for the advice. To my knowledge, the science teachers will not have an online textbook. They will be creating from available web materials, which is some of their frustration. That's why I am searching for some materials and sites to…

About Me
I have spent the majority of the last 15 years teaching English and coaching. The one year I did not teach my contract was purchased by the Indiana Department of Education so that I could provide support to teachers who were just becoming familiar with 1:1 classrooms. After that stint, i happily returned to my classroom and hope to continue to utilize technology to improve my classroom and my students' futures.

Fighting the Tech People

Posted on September 24, 2008 at 10:13am 2 Comments

Ok, not so much fighting, but trying to build an argument. Our tech people do not want teacehrs using wikis in their classrooms because of concerns about control. I'm looking to build up a great argument to present to the Superintendent so that we might be able to win this battle. All suggestions are welcome!

Mark, your presentation on intermediate moodle last November in Highland opened the door for me on web 2.0 in the classroom. You (or the forces that be?) have moved your 1:1 site. Is it still available?

Hi Mark!

Hope you're enjoying the winter break. I was wondering if you, your educator contacts or students would be interested in participating in a nationwide Vocab Video Contest @ MIT university. We'd really like to get more students involved from Indiana!

You can view contest details at BrainyFlix.com Please let me know. Thanks!
