About Me
I'm a communicator, facilitator, and educator by vocation; by temperament, I’m a singer, storyteller, and analogy artist. (You can share my ongoing journey to teacherdom on my blog, "Learning, Thinking, and Teaching," at http://mariawilliams486.blogspot.com.)

My decision to return to the classroom as an elementary school teacher was a surprise – to me, most of all. After a test semester as a CDC resource assistant, conducting individual and group RTI work in reading, I’m stoked about the prospect of entering the elementary classroom. This fall I’ll be interning in a grade-4 classroom, and I can’t wait to get started.

Over the years I’ve been a technical writer, taught nontechnical subjects at a technical school, operated a school-based family resource center, managed data for a nonprofit, helped run a small construction business, and – while getting my B.A. – carried mail on a very rural route, which is a great gig for a would-be poet.

These days I’m a working musician; among other endeavors, I play double bass with The LoneTones, a Knoxville Americana band that has just released its third album. I have a daughter in high school, a husband who teaches fifth grade, and a rat terrier whose enthusiasm for life is an inspiration.
